Question Redemption Period

Redemption period:

Domain is expired and has gone through its Hold period without being renewed by its owner. During this period, 30 days, only the domain owner may renew the domain, however the cost is 10-30 times more than the regular renewal rate, depending on the registrar. Again the redemption period end date may be arrived at by adding 30 days to the "Updated" date

This one was contributed by Sharpy at the FAQ.

I saw a domain with a "Redemption Period" status. Updated date is March 10, 2004. It has been more than 45 days since the update. When can I expect the name to be available?

Thanks.

I'm not sure if this is much help for you, but I had to wait about 67 days, total, for a domain to get deleted, so it was available for registration again.

Is this any help:

It seems that there is no fixed period for this

I'll try out the link. Many thanks.

That's odd. Ideally when a domain name is at the Registry level, it stays in redemption for 30 days, then goes thru the deletion cycle w/in 5 days, then should be available at the 6th day.

Of course, that's all ideal.

Are there really registrars that charge 10-30 times more than the renewal rate for a redemption.

That doesn't seem right?

Unfortunately the Registry gives the registrars leeway in determining how much they'll charge.

NetSol charges $150 while Enom's $200+ and Bulkregister's $300+ (I think).

If the latter 2 aren't highway robbery, I don't know what is.

Then again, Ed, nothing's certain in this world.
