Offer to Buy Site, including Domain Process. How to?

Hello Everybody,

I am familiar with the domain name market and all that, but never engaged in any of those activities myself yet.

I came across a domain that interests me. The content of the domain is only a one page site, no sales letter or parked domain site. Some regular links and some affiliate links and banners. The Who-Is record is also public so I got the owners email address.

The domain was registered for 5 years and will expire or must be renewed by the owner (for the first time) in about 4 months from now. The domain is practically not used. Nothing links to it and it ranks for nothing either and I am sure that the owner was unable to monetize the domain in any way.

I want to contact the owner and offer him a fair price for the site including the domain (I don't care for the content much, but I think it makes things easier if I just get the whole thing and get it over with).

How do I approach this the best and what are the correct steps if he agrees to sell the domain to me? He wants to make sure to get the money and I want to make sure that I get the domain. I want this for the owner of the domain as easy as possible that he will do it, just to get rid of it without the need to jump through hoops.

I assume that sending the owner an email and already include a specific offer with instructions what he has to do if he agrees that he knows what will happen and that it will be easy money for him, is the best way to do it, but I would like to hear from some people that have some experience with this what their take is on that.

Note: The good thing is, that I have also an account at the same registrar where he has the domain registered so the transfer would happen from one account to another at the same registrar, if he agrees to sell.

i think i would do what you said above but dont montion what he have to do if he agree , because most of the scammers use that style i think you allready know that and you allready got some scamer emails and mybe the same case for the seller , so i advise do not include what he should do for after he accepte , untill you bouth agree or at least untill he reply to your email , i would just send a friendly email asking for the price or offer him a price...,

Now lets say he agrees to sell and we agree on a price.

What is the best way to get this transfer done?

I know that he has to remove the "transfer lock" that I can request to get the domain transferred to my account. He will get an email from the registrar with the info that the transfer was requested and what to do to approve or decline it.

But how are we doing it with the payment? Is there a service out there that can be used as mediator who works on a fee basis and not membership? I would pay the fee of course and don't want the domain owner to pay anything, but require registration.

The money would be transferred from me to the mediator and the domain too.
The Mediator would then send the money to the seller and transfer the domain over to me. I don't want the domain owner to get some stupid ideas or run off to an auction house or something like that.

I also want to avoid to run into problems if I pay first and the guy then simply does not respond nor removes the transfer lock nor accepts the transfer request.

Any recommendations? Thanks.

you need to be careful if you dont know the seller , you will need to use an escrow service , i use SEDO.com all time there is escrow.com to but never used it , sedo will take 3% of the sell price and will ensure to give you the name and give him the money that is the safe way to go if you dont know the seller

Escrow.com is a good mediator. I think it cost $25 and up.
