Selling a Newly Registered Name

I'm going to be buying a newly registered name from someone, but am bit unsure of how exactly the domain is transferred from owner to owner.

Does he need to transfer the domain, or can he just change the login of his registrar account with the domain in it and give it to me? The domain cannot be transferred to a different registrar because it is less than 60 days old.

How exactly does a domain change hands? In the past, the seller has simply given me the username and login for his registrar account and then I was able to change the domain's details, but I would like something a bit more secure for this transaction.

Normally, you can ask the seller to push you the domain. This is easily done in NameCheap, it would require a little bit more information in Godaddy thou.

After the domain is pushed to your account, you can do whatever you want with it, change details, nameserver, transfer etc.

With all the registrars that I have used they are all pretty similar with the push process. As mentioned above some require a bit more information but basically work the same.
