Need Help ASAP with previously registered domain....

Hi,
I had registered the domain name racerxmoto quite a while back probably a year or more, really unsure, Anyway, I registered the domain through a webhost (who didn't work out) and my problem now is this, my latest host (as some may have read on previous post) up and vanished on me causing me to lose my whole site. Not that long ago, I recieved an email stating that my domain name was going to expire within I believe it was 3 months...I have tried effortlessly to find the old email to see what it said to do to reinstate the name and secure it for another year but the email is long gone. So, I 'whois' the domain name and as far as it is showing it is still registered to my hubby (me really, lol) but yet I am unsure if this is a fact. There is no site up with my domain name..as of yet and I don't know what else to do to find out if we still "own" this domain name or not.

What I need to know is:
1. How do I confirm that the domain is still mine?
2. How do I secure it for another year?
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-newbies/193567-need-help-asap-previously-registered-domain.html
3. Lastly and most importantly: Is there anyway to change the "registar" at this point? (Meaning, the company that registared my DN I do not deal with and would prefer to use an indenpendant DN registar (namely namepros) I don't won't to continue using this "middle" man company (who registered my DN thru a place called TUCOWS?) so anytime I have an issue with the DN I have to contact the Hosting company and then a few days later they contact me back with information for me to submit to the TUCOWS place who are a DN registry, just a horrible experience in all. So is there anyway to get it switched from the host who initially registered it to a new company?

Thank you for your help so much,
Nikki

Well if you registered the domain name through a webhost a lot of the time they keep the ownership but in this case i guess you have it which is good.

If you remember the host who registered it for you, try asking them where they registered it to and ask for login details to access it? They will probably need proof that it was you who owns it, like credit card you got it with or something.

I may be talking rubbish though, but it's worth a shot!

www.whois.sc/yourdomainname.com

See if it's your name in the admin contact.

If it is, transfer it quickly away from your host, hosts are bad places to keep domain names.
