60 Day Rule?

I've been in domaining for a little bit now,but I'm still not getting thie 60 day rule thing. What can you not do for this 60 day period, when does this 60 day period happen, and what is the purpose of the "60 Day Rule?"

Thanks
-Ambrose

You cannot transfer a domain to another registrar until it has been registered for 60 days. The purpose of it is to give registrars a chance to catch credit card chargebacks or other types of fraud.

GoDaddy also has its own "60 day rule" that causes them to deny registrar transfers after any change in ownership information. Most other registrars do not do this.

I think what he really meant was why 60 days instead of, say, 30 or 90.

60 days is more or less a reasonable amount of time for registrars to make up
for any potential losses due to chargebacks and what have you.

When you say make up, do you mean to recharge them?

If you cannot transfer to another Registrar for 60 days, can you push a domain within the same Reg. to someone you have sold it to?

Thanks,

DC

Yes you can generally push to another user account within the 60 days. The reigistrar is safe that if there's fraud or non-payment, they still have control of both accounts and can fix things.

Basically, the rules keeps someone from registering with a stolen card or doing a false chargeback, then immediately transferring it to another registrar where it would be difficult for the original registrar to make things right.

Also, The Godaddy 60 day policy on name changes as well, also applies to their reseller registrar Wild West Domains.

Does this 60 day rule only apply for Go-Daddy customers, or is it for any registrar?

Register within, say, Enom ... and then sell and push within the Enom system, and you'll be good to go IMHO.
Happy New Year.
