![]() ![]() ![]() | It doesn't cost $60 to push, it costs $60 (£35.50) to legally transfer domain, but nobody will want a domain they don't legally own. Not sure if you can sell it on a 99 year lease to avoid fee, never looked into it. http://www.nominet.org.uk/MakingChan...Name/Transfer/ |

![]() ![]() ![]() | When you register a .co.uk nominet send you a certificate of ownership (can take up to 6 months) the only way you can ever change registration details is to send the certificate back with the form on reverse filled in and a cheque for £35.50 You can request a new certificate through their website, if you've lost it or haven't received it yet and they will send it to registered owner. |

????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-newbies/139016-co-uk-costs-60-usd-push.html I wouldnt really mind if there was a small fee, but $60 (£30) per domain is quite frankly IMHO rediculous! - Luke

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I think .co.uk names are valuable. It's one of the most established ccTLDs after .de. I have a few in my portfolio but you should concentrate on the nice ones or those that you intend to develop. Obviously Nominet does not encourage name speculation

Just read through the new system, you now have to apply for transfer forms, send them between both parties to fill relevant sections in, provide photographic ID, utility bill etc. both parties write a confirmatory letter, fill in a remittance advice form, send off the cheque for £35.25 and then nominet will conduct a thorough investigation into the transfer and if they agree it you get a transfer. I guess they really are trying to put people off transferring names. | ||||

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I don't think it's the "transferring" they're against, IMO it's the "speculation" in domains they're trying to stop. No way it costs "them" $60 to transfer a domain... that's plain rubbish.

![]() | Let's look at what actually happens: When you buy a UK domain you receive a letter (snail mail) (after a few weeks or months). It has a code concealed within the letter which you use at nic.uk to confirm that you are the lawful owner. You check your contact details & change as necessary. If you give/sell the domain to someone else, you can enter their contact details at nic.uk & ask your registrar to push the domain to their (uk listed) registrar. (Or create a new account at your registrar for the new owner to use.) Then next time nominet send out their letter (which they do every 2 years when the domain is renewed) the new owner will receive it (with the code) & they will be billed on their new account. So in practice there is no cost to someone else having full control of the domain. But in nominet's rules the true owner is the person whose name is on the domain, not who is using &/or paying for it. So there is an element of trust involved in doing this. One solution may be to make up a company when registering the domain so that it is not your domain but some bogus company name. Then the person who buys the domain assumes the company name. But if someone creates a genuine company they could claim your domain if they appear to be the lawful owner (perhaps!). ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=139016 (That last paragraph was just conjecture.) My conclusion is that if a $60 dollar fee is making or breaking the deal then get some better domain names! :-D |
