Keeping your domain name your own

I have had a question about keeping your domain name your own.

Like how do you stop somebody else from getting it when it expires? I mean lets say i get a domain name and i pay to have it renewed but somebody has it backordered. Do i get to keep my domain name?

I know these are probably stupid questions to people who know a lot about domain names, but I really just don't know very much.

If you renew your domain before it expires backordering has no affect on your domain name. Backordering only kicks in after the domain name has exired.

Ok thanks for the clarification. I didn't think it would be that hard to keep your domain name if you wanted it.

Yea it's yours to keep as long as you keep paying the big guys.
