![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Domain or DN ? trying to choose domain to buy, and here is question came up with: what is better to use DOMAIN or DN ? If remember that everybody sais that shorter is better, then i should go with DN. In same time remembering that DN is an abreviation, so not. and where is so much DN variations available, and i cannot find anything on it on OVT results, that i thought it whould be right idea to ask here first. What would you use if you will have both possibillities to go with Domain.......com /info/net or Dn.......com/info/net ?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Use the full word "Domain". If you use just "DN", most people have no clue as to what that means (except for people in the business).

![]() | I think registering both is a good idea! Also, you kind of have to think about your targeted audience. If you are targeting people who are familiar with domaining and understand the abbreviation DN, it is probably safe to use the abbreviation. That would also keep it short and sweet. BUT, if your audience might not really understand what DN means, it is better to spell it out. It really just depends on your audience. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | I have a very simular question to the original question so I thought it would be appropriate to ask it here. I am the one that posted several available DN names after I registered dndex.com. But when I was setting up a godaddy reseller account I realized that even tho it is short but still very meaningful, atleast in my unexperienced opinion, it mainly has meaning to those in the biz (A couple of months ago I would not have associated DN to Domain Names) So to get to the heart of the question does the does "DNDex - the Domain Name Index" or "Domain Name DEX" outway the DN instead of a good "Domain" name. Thanks, Matt |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | One additional factor ,Even "DOMAIN" is not common among new and rare users of the internet . A large percentage of internet neophytes use the terms "WebNames" or "WebSite Names"

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I had an idea to use "threads" instead of "forum" for a domain name forum. So I was wondering the same thing. I decided just to register three variations and ask for appraisals. DNthreads.com DomainThreads.com NameThreads.com People liked DomainThreads.com the most. I think even though it's longer, "Domain" more recognizable for someone that isn't in the business, like Gene was saying.

![]() ![]() ![]() | Personally I'd go for “name” instead of “domain” or “DN”. And not just because this is NamePros instead of DNPros It's one syllable and does a good job of conveying what a site is about. I have a few Name... names myself but no DN or Domain ones. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | if possible get both forms, advertise the "domain" but say you have a member based site, tell them about the "dn" saves em time typing, less typos. like registerfly.com has regfly.com too etc.

DN,NAME, or Domain

![]() ![]() ![]() | Figured I'd have a look at what the market thinks. Here are totals for all .com names currently registered starting with the keywords being discussed. See the notes below, but it's clear “domain” is the winner, hands down. domain: 18,500 dn: 13,800* name: 7,700* Notes: Number rounded to closest 100 and as accurate as yesterdays zone file. There are 13,800 names that start with DN. A name that starts with DN is not necessarily related to the domain name business. There are 3,500 that start with DNA, and 3,100 that start with DNS. Excluding these gives a more realistic figure of about 7,000. There are countless other uses for the names that start with "name" outside the domain business. The actual figure for domain related names is probably around 1/2 the total, 3,500-4,000 |
