Shill Bidding in Ebay -What should I do

I recently bidded on 2 items, and both times I was outbid by another user. I tried to out bid this user but there proxy was quite high. Now I went to see this user's profile, they have been on ebay since 2001, but have only won 3 auctions this month from the same seller, as the one I tried to buy from... this to me looks highly suspicious (shill bidding), and I would like to know what I can do to see if my suspicions are correct.

Thanks

Iravan

I have had this happen before.
I was buying a satellite dish and did a little research on the person bidding against me.
Turns out the "person" had no trader rating at all even though he had signed up 3 years prior, coincidently the same time the seller signed up.

I informed the seller that I suspected him of shilling and that I would not be paying. I then lodged a complaint with Ebay.

mikfo is an unknown quantity at this point

If you file a complaint with eBay during the actual auction, they
will monitor it and the scammer and his shill will never know it till
it's too late.

... and try not to get in a bidding war with the shill bidder. Ebay is big, there may be others selling exactly the same item.

Funny since they can just put a BIN or reserve if they're really after a certain amount.

Report it and look elsewhere.

BIN's and reserves tend to scare bidders away

hookah is on a distinguished road

I dont suppose the seller will be satisfied selling things himself (and paying eBay provision for such a transaction). So I usually bid the price I am willing to pay but not higher following the shill bidder and dont care of shill bidding any more.

Ah Well Still Waiting

Id thought I would add the item that i was outbid on by the shiller, according to the shiller's feedback he/she had alreay purchased the exact same item from the exact same seller... seems even more suspicious

Bah - Write it down for your own use ..... and move on - Ebay could really care less IMO , It has been going on forever and seems to be some of their "PowerSellers" only techniques for selling ......

That is actually illegal (in england at least), ebay should be more strict about it.

let us assume that the item is listed as a no reserve starting price of $10. The seller would like at least $50 but thinks that a higher starting price will kill the auction. The use of a fake bidder helps to, in theory, bid up the price and encourage the chase...If you use sniper software then it is more difficult for the seller to push you around with his 'friend'.
