How do you transfer a name once you sell?

Is it specific to each registrar and is there standard guidelines? How long does it take? Does it cost anything to do? Has anyone had any experience transfering sold names from 1and1 or godaddy? Thanks.

If the buyer want transfer the name to another registrar ,you should unlock your domain, and the buyer will start the transfer at his registrar, and you will get or not get email from your registrar or the other registrar ,you should read the mail and do something follow the email.
It will cost about 7-10 days.

bookee is an unknown quantity at this point

Thank you. I am such a green horn at this. I want to do everything right and professional. I will be selling to the owner and I did not want to appear too ignorant. Also, I read somewhere in this forum where someone was selling a domain and offered to PUSH it to the buyer. What did she mean by "PUSH"???
