Trawl the lists of expiring domains. There are some good names recycled which are available at reg fee and may draw some traffic.

I do.
Believe me, if you are a serious player you will quickly find yourself with a heap of names in your portfolio. Check the expiring names. Do your own research. There are a few good names still available.
Investing in domain names is addictive

In the meantime you can park your names with Sedo and test the waters elsewhere too. Remember quality is more important than quantity. It's no use having tens of names if they are all crap and bring no traffic.
