Is there a way to check backorders?

Is there a way to check to see if anyone has backordered a domain?

I own a domain for a pretty active forum, with a .net extension. The .org extension expires from GoDaddy tomorrow, and I think it would be a good idea to get the .org, because we're only 6 months old, and have 54 members on the forum, and we're just about to launch into a huge project that will bring us a LOT of publicity in the political area.

So, is there a way to check and see if anyone has backordered the domain?

Also, I'm wondering, I haven't seen an option on NameCheap.com to back order a domain, like some registrars do. Is there a way to do that?

Since Godaddy will only allow you to place one backorder on a name you could try giving them a call ask them if it's been backordered through them, However that dosent mean no one else has it back-ordered. As far as I know there is no other way to know.

No need to call Go

Just try to Godaddy register the dot-org you are watching. Godaddy will come back with it not being available for registration. Below this notice will be another notice that reads: "Backorder this domain for $18.95." If it does not say this, then someone has already backordered it.
