Two year registrations?

On .co.uk there is a two year registration rule, I think this is pointless.
The .uk extensions are really good but this rule is really getting me angry.
This rule has stopped me buying them a few times.

I think .co.uk, .org.uk and the rest of the .uk's should go down to one year.
Do you agree with me??

I think they should stay at 2 years but for the same price as 1 year

dweeb is an unknown quantity at this point

some people may chose to give up on certain domains that they have bought after a yearif they think that there's no profit coming in from them. so a one year registration for .uks and what not would be more attractive.

I don't see why .co.uk should be treated any other way than the regular TLD's, so yea I agree with you, 1 year regs would be better. Makes them a lot more interesting..

That’s speaking on the viewpoint of a consumer. Try putting yourself in the
shoes of the provider and try to "justify" how to stay profitable and continue
offering it to consumers.

Note this phrase from Nominet:

http://www.nominet.org.uk/ReferenceD...AndConditions/

Quote:
We are a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee, generally performing these services on a cost-recovery basis
It all boils down to what side of the fence you choose to be on.

The question isn’t “shouldn’t people be allowed to register a domain name with
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-newbies/116009-two-year-registrations.html
this extension for 1 year at least?”. The real question is “do I really need this
domain using this extension in the first place?”.

I guess it just means they get more money, as there is a small charge per domain that is registered?

(Though, im not exactly sure on the law regarding domain registrars...)

Cystic Fibrosis Diabetes Breast Cancer Save a Life
Australia is also 2Yrs Registration period for
com.au & all the other .au ccTLD's .

But it gets back to do you really want the name or not.
If you really want it ,having 2 years is nothing.
Domain Names were never really intended for short term speculation
(Did I really say that ,with all mine),but for business or
personal Web-site usage . I suppose when the rules were formulated ,
it was thought 2 years was a reasonable period for Web-site development and use.

Google is now considering giving higher ranking to domains
that have been regged for longer , so having 2 years could be advantage

Yeah, supposedly spammers reg for one year so requiring more years will create a better quality of domain holders....supposedly.
