Question WindowsVistaXXXXXX.com or VistaXXXXXX.com?
Hi,

I am new here and as many of you I had to register some Vista domains. What strikes me though is that most people here have VistaXXXXXX.com instead of the full WindowsVistaXXXXXX.com. I understand that there might be some TM issues with the WindowsVistaXXXXXX.com versions and that the Vista version is shorter. But if I look at the SE stats over twice as many type in Windows Xp + keyword that of people typing in just Xp + keyword for one of my names.

So could a top WindowsVistaXXXXXX.com domain have just as much value as the shorter Vista version, if it has more searches in Google for its name as my does? Let's say WindowsVistaThemes.com Vs VistaThemes.com?


Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated

Microsoft might try and TM the entire English language, but they might have to spilt it with Google...in the meantime, leave "Windows" out of the domain name.

I understand the TM problem, but how likely is it that MS will close down your site as long as the site is clean and there is no anti MS content on the site? Just look at all the sites with xbox360 in their domain?

I clearly see though how the Vista only version is worth more as it should be 99% safe to develop as site on it, compared to the more risky Windows version. However there must be some way I can put this domain to good use as tons of people are gonna be searching for that exact term when Vista is launhced.

I didn't actually register to sell it, but to develop my own Vista related website. I could always just try to make it and see what happens. I guess the site quite easely could get get 5000 + daily visitors , so if MS dosen't like it I could just redirect it to a new domain.

Did you hear about that guy who set up mikerowsoft.com....microsoft couldn't sue him or something and they had to pay him to deregister it Anyway on the subject of copyright laws the popular gaming program Steam's creators tried to trademark it but I don't think they succeeded.....

I'm incline to believe that those domains will attract type-in traffic. I just completed vistawallpaper.com and I found that there are about 3 type-ins a day. Surprising?

To avoid tm troubles it'll be better to leave out either Microsoft or Windows.

Personally, I would rather have a vistaXXXXX.com domain. Mostly because of TM issues but the domain is a bit shorter and sounds much better to me. I wouldn't want Microsoft in my domain because the name sounds way over used.
