I'm New To The Domain Reselling Business! Help Wanted

I'm very interested in this domain reselling business. I feel like I'm missing out because I don't know very much about domain names.

I have question to get me started in this, as I want to try to sell domains also.

1. I buy a domain (lets say at godaddy); how long do I have to wait to push the account to a person who bought the domain?

2. Does the person (let's say got the domain from bidding in auction) pay just by sending me the money through paypal? Then, after I got the money, he gives me account info for me to transfer the domain to him? Is that how transfering is done (even in the live chatting auctions at namepros)? If not, please tell me how everything is done.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-newbies/104234-im-new-domain-reselling-business-help.html

3. Is there anything specific I need to know before I try to make some money from selling domains?

4. Also, what is the point of people buying a domain I've registered for "mid $xx" (besides using the domain for a site)? Does that person just try to sell the domain for more than what he bought it for?

5. What is this that I keep seeing? "View Appraisal Methods and Profile for -"

6. In domain appraisals people ask if the domain has traffic - how do you know if it gets traffic?

7. Where are these sites that show which keywords people search for the most on google?

8. Is godaddy a good registrar? (i'm just wondering because of the legal dispute thread i saw about them)

9. If I have found a good domain name worth $xxx, where should I go to sell it?

Thanks a lot for your help!

All are great questions but the reason you havent received great answers is that there are just too many...and you'll find the answers on each here. You can also search for for topics. My advice is to read up more on the great threads here and then ask one good question at the time. Threads where people are talking about multiple issues gets confusing. Thats just how forums work. Good luck.

I can give you a few quick answers but you should really follow the suggestion above.

Godaddy is great. Donmt worry about their legal trouble. All big companies have them. As for the superbowl ad - mnore power to them. Loved it. It was just what america needed after the no-skin hysteria after last years dress malfunction.

Sell your domain "everywhere" List at sedo. park it somewhere else. I recommend domainhop. Great optimizing controls. Your domain shouls always be doing something!!!
(there are so many places wher you can just list your domains) Dont forget industry specific (to the domain) avenues.

Key words on google. Well keywords on searches in general you can get from:

http://inventory.overture.com/d/sear...ry/suggestion/

extremely helpful for keywords

This question cracked me up: "3. Is there anything specific I need to know before I try to make some money from selling domains?"

Keep reading this forum. Good luck.

K, fleege, thanks for the help. Before you even posted, I was already trying to get the answers, one by one, and I was already doing a lot of reading lol. It's just that I added this thread just for more info, if someone gave it. The more the better . I already had a lot of the stuff down, and I'm already pretty knowledgable.

But, you still did add some more info to my knowledge, so thanks!

I think you should just use the search button and read more threads and learn. That is how I got into the biz.

You can start with the information here - SedoInc.com

If you find it useful, you can always add it to your signature so other newbies can locate it - look at my signature

1> You don't have to wait to push it to someone else on GoDaddy. You do have to wait 60 days to transfer it to another registrar.

2> Yes, that is usually how transfers work if the registrar has free push.

3> That's the question we all want to know the answer to

4> Domains may have value to one person and not the other, also there are some that plan to develop it, so they may pay more than you registered it for. There are also a lot that know that some domains are worth more than reg fee

5> That line is so that you can see how the person comes up with the appraisal and what their qualifications are for making the appraisal.

6> If the domain is parked, or directed somewhere, there will be traffic stats. Like if you park a domain at Sedo, Sedo tells you what traffic it has. All parking programs have such stats. If you direct it, then the server logs will indicate this.

7> The link presented above for Overture is a good bet for finding out how popular a phrase is. Keep in mind though that Overture does not differentiate between plural and the exact order of the keywords.

8> GoDaddy is one of the largest and in buying/selling, people are more likely to have an account there, but there are all sorts of reputable registrars. Registerfly, DomainSite, NameCheap, Enom are just some of the most popular ones. Stay away from 1and1.com at all costs. Always pick a registrar that has free push if you plan to sell the domain.

9> Haven't really shopped around on where to sell higher priced domains.

BTW, I don't recommend DomainHop, they are known for their quick trigger finger in getting rid of accounts for no reason.

Domianhop is fantastic but they do not hesitate a second about getting rid of a small player who cant follow rules. No clicking on your own urls. Thats a big no-no in the industry for affiliate and for adsense as well.
