![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Long Domain Names - Are they any good? Hey I have a question about how much the value of a domain increases/decreases depending on the character length like if I have a 17 character domain name, but it makes sense, and is easy to remember does the value of it still go down just because it is long??? Please enlighten me Thanx Umber |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Every domain name has its own value, but generally yes -- long domains has a lower value with exceptions. Like memorable, brandable, common keywords, etc..

![]() ![]() ![]() | Yes I agree with designporte, thought a certain limit of lenght a long name could still have a strong value, 17 chars to me it is slightly long, the problem is that over 12-14 characters for the average people most of the names are not so memorable, also the meaning it is important but not only that, it is difficult to have a long name (that usuallyis build upon 2 or more words, that appear meaninful when the words are join together like it is in a domain name, unless you use an hypen but by using an hypen, or two the value it is subejct to be lowered ,of course there are exeptions also to that, but very rare. ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-newbies/104080-long-domain-names-they-any-good.html Also to consider is that the more the name is long the most is easy to misstype it (it is true also for shorts names because many people are in a hurry). I am curious , if it is possible I would like to know the name, I love exceptions!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | HI I have seen domain names that are long and they still go for a good price... I guess it all depends on the buyer at the time of the sale.. if the seller lists his name in the right place at the right time you could be lucky and get good money for your domain, Nothing surprises me anymore after reading the DNjournal report every week for the past year.... Thanks Tom Dahne |

Long Domains are not the "Perfect" Domain Name in most Peoples eyes ... But they work just fine If they are to the point with keywords and can easily be remembered or BookMarked

![]() | If you plan on most of your traffic coming from search engines only and no type-ins, long names even with dashes don't seem to matter much. I've seen plenty of long domain names such as get-a-super-cheap-mortgage.com show up in the first one or two pages of Google. Of course there's no argument that a nice short catchy memorable name would be preferred. This is assuming you plan to develop the name and not just sell it. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | long domains are also a pain for offline marketing efforts (which when successful lead to typeins) and with type ins a lot can go wrong. With a long domain you really have to stick to reference kind of offline media where people can hang on to your info such as biz cards, mailers. Your "one time" medias such as radio tv or outdoor are out. This is why you dont see many mainstream companies/services with long domains. Its important especially for web pros to not forget the offline world. It still exist. I visit it frequently..

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | catchy and word combo are the key words, not the actual length of the word. Once you develop the domain and create a name for yourself, it won't matter wether the domain is 8 letters or 17

![]() | It really depends on the purpose of the site - for example if you want a site which people are going to visit once and then forget about then a long name is probably alright, and in some cases better. However if you want a site such as a forum which people will regularly visit then i'd suggest a short sharp domain name. |
