They just sent me a not too friendly letter to let me know that a domain they claim is mine (which I have never owned) will now expire unless I pay:

Ohh - I just read the fine print and it says that copying and/or distributing content of their email is "prohibited"

I did a little digging and find the domain in question is owned by someone in Hawaii and is good until January 2006

I also replied (maybe I should not have) to the renewal request that I do not and have never owned that domain.

No response so far.

its a scam man lol. they can't send you an email and claim it is proprietary information. if it is sent to you unsolicited, it is public domain and therefor can be posted here (especially since you've never agreed to any non-disclosure terms).

they dont want you to post it cause then "word" would get out about who they are and about thier little scam.

if your still loath to post it, PM it to me and I'll post it... let them try to sue me, the man of no fear

I had gotten one of these in the snail mail and I opened it and tossed it because I knew it was a result of whois digging.

I've gotten about a hundred of these in snail mail. Looks like someone is now switching over to email. Guess they're updating.

It's nothing more than a scam IMHO, delete it and move on.

I suppose they would just take the money and scram - and because the domain is not even in my name, I would have no recourse.
