Smile singular, plural.

I know it will be difficult to generalise, but when is a plural name worth registering, if the singular isn't available?

e.g. superboy and superboys.

Thanks all who reply.

There is no set answer. It's purely a common sense thing (or a keyword thing if you're going mainly for keyword type-ins).

Common sense: Your example of superboy vs superboys... what is the web site about? Is it a focus on one boy who is super, or is it about boys in general who are super? That's the type of reasoning that determines plural vs singular.

Plural is typically a good play for resell if the keyword is that good ( cat.com vs. cats.com ) but if it is superman vs. supermans (supermen )... not quite as good of a catch.

If it's a single service site like, example: Battery.com ,But if it offers mulituple services then batteries.com would be ok,I most usually go for the singular name except in very certain curcumstances.

I think you have to look at the situation and the keywords as mentioned before. It has to be gramatically correct (spelling), and you'll need to see if it's in the criteria of what you're offering.

Again, no specific standards -- changes from domain name to domain name, IMHO.

The others have already done a great job of answering, so not much I can add except a few examples.

Game -VS- Games = I would choose the plural, Games.

Mom -VS- Moms = I would choose the singular, Mom.

Car -VS- Cars
Kid -VS- Kids
------------------
These I would have to carefully consider many factors. The extension, the development plan, etc.

Agree? Disagree?

Cancer
IMO - plural is only useful to reg if the pluralised form of the word is the most commonly recognised amongst people.

Eg: crush.com would be better than crushes.com, however sleeves would be better than sleeve... you talk more about sleeves in the plural sense than in the singular, so it would be a better domain name.. IMHO

(however, I can NOT imagine how a developed web site about sleeves could be interesting and marketable?? LOL)

EDIT - I just noticed that my one-hundreth post on this forum was about sleeves? I need to get out more!!!
