.ws domains, your views?

Hey,

I was wondering if .ws domains are of any decent value (obviously it depends what domain, but in general...).

What are your views on .ws?

I think .ws is suffering in part due to the MLM schemes all over eBay trying to promote .ws as the way to "make your fortune on internet property". Bleh. Also their reservation of "keyword" and short names at such high prices (Direct from registrar) hurts the developemnt potential. However, opinions are varied, and have been discussed before:

there are godzillions of starwars websites in existence, so unless your developed website is something special, then the name with .ws extension is worth about

I like .ws to develop sites, there are loads of great domains left on .ws that with bit of time to develop can work out well.

My David Beckham site does well SE wise and is getting about 500 uniques a day, my Anna K one isn't doing so good tho, thought that would but guess not, but I have about 15 other .ws domains I wanna get in the future and develop, mostly fansites but I don't have time at moment.

I've developed a few myself that are doing quite good, and I'm working on a couple more right now.
I even sell a few .ws for an ok profit now and then, so I'm quite happy with the extension myself..
And judging by the number of "what do you think about .ws ...." threads that's showing up here regularly now it seems like more and more people are starting to take notice of it as well.

Namecheap charge over $20 I think, I always go with Godaddy for .ws

Well Redleg should know how I feel about .WS, I made a site for promoting .WS developed sites (although not limited to .WS domains). I've developed a few and have several projects under way.

All it takes is one or two commercials on tv or radio for a .ws site and people will start trying .ws generic names like they do dot com's when they can't find what they are looking for on a search engine or try accessing a business directly.

I think as long as the community continues to promote the extention as .WebSite and not Western Samoa, we will see value grow.

People like RedLeg and me are travelling down a road which I feel will be very rewarding. With all the domain parkers out there on dot com's, people use to just typing in names and then .com afterwards looking for what they want, might start trying other extentions that they see as common place too.

Just my thoughts.

.ws pricing is quite variable in my experiences with some places charging around $8 and others charging over $20.

I have confidence in the extension. It's been branded as .website and I think this will help it's value despite it being a Western Samoa ext. For companies who cannot reach the .com, .net or even .org domains this will be the next best alternative IMHO. It provides an international ability unlike .us or another country ext. I think the value will grow as the years pass and .com becomes harder to get.

Im not sure.... i havent seen anything except a drop in prices in .ws recently... unless it can turn itself round soon, i cant seing .ws's worth very much at all in the future....

I own one .ws.. overall, I'm not much impressed by the potential market.. it's probably one of my least favorite ext.
