10 vs ten in domain name?

I have a simple question.. its been years since i have been actively involved in the domain business. My question is it generally accepted to use the spelling of a number in the domain or the number itself? IE 10people.com or tenpeople.com

What about articles and content. ie. 10 people running for mayor in philadelphia...

Im actually quite stuck.. Im seaching a domain for my up and coming web startup.

Generally, ten is better than 10. But 10 works on some domains, like top10.com

If your writing an article you dont want to start a sentence or a title with a numeral.

"Ten people ran for mayor."

not:

"10 people ran for mayor"

10.com is a lot better than ten.com.

However, in a phrase, it depends. In your example, ten sounds better.

In a domain name, I will always go with 10, as it has only two digits and has more readability.

For developing a site, you need both "10" and "ten"; otherwise, you will lose traffic to the other url.

For flipping, the "pure" "10" is better than "ten," but I wouldn't turn away either.

Refer to the AP Style Guide!

http://www.wwu.edu/journalism/syllabi/207labmanual.htm

In web sites it depends... I don't think it's wise to mix numbers and letters. Exceptions are if it's a single number or on the end, imho

Level3
Cloud9
Level42

I don't like Cloud9Apps though but I do like CloudNineApps - but ideally you would have both and then pick the one with the best logo-ability (which may be the number).

Remember over the phone it's awkward to say Cloud then the number 9 then App vs just cloud nine apps all spelled out.

I don't like anything that looks like a Prince song. IwouldDie4U etc.

In conclusion, it's purely arbitrary. Some like it. Some don't.

If you're building an end-user website, it's probably safe to get both domains to capture traffic from people who type either versions.
