Democratic group holds newtgingrich.com hostage

Quote:
Democratic opposition research group American Bridge 21st Century on Wednesday revealed that they are the proud owners of newtgingrich.com.

Not only that, they want to give you the opportunity to take control of the site.

"With the holiday season rapidly upon us, what do you get for the Republican primary candidate who has everything?" the group wrote in a press release sent Wednesday. "We're asking for $1 million, but we'd be happy to accept $500,000 in bling. Heck in the spirit of Christmas we might even let it go for $10,000," they joked.

i foresee a clear win for Gingrich...maybe not in the primary but at least for the name lol....unfortunately it will take a while for him to get it back but he could run again in 2016, this time with his "secured" own domain name :-)

cheers

I don't know why Newt would bother. He already has a successful website under newt.org. Perfect for a political niche, imho. I think he would win any wipo hands down for newtgingrich.com.

I agree. It is a much better fit for what he does. This stunt by this group is likely to end in a legal battle in which I would suspect they would have very little chance winning even though possession is 9/10th of the law. If they were smart they would be best to unload it. The longer they brag about its ownership and joke about prices the less time it has value, especially if he loses the race. He is still worth a pretty penny but the necessity of the name drops dramatically.

Newt is perfectly electable. He is also the only Republican in the race that can stand up to Obama in the debates.

I'm sure political strategists know exactly how much this domain is worth versus spending the money on TV ads.

It's funny how Rick Schwartz was saying awhile ago that TeaParty.com was the most valuable domain for sale and worth over $1 Million. Now look at where the Tea Party is at. They went from floundering when the offer was made on the domain to now being totally irrelevant. Still think it's worth $1 Million?

Hopefully the Newt domain owners don't also screw it up for themselves.

This is one of the most important lessons I have learned in domaining.

Same issue as now, a group of individuals that own a valuable domain name. They are not in tune with the trends and hold out thinking they will get more and more than what it is currently worth. They hold it too long and it drops values immensely.

I never thought TeaParty.com was worth $1 million but now it is definitely not even worth anywhere near that. Do you sell it now at a reduced rate? Or do you hold on in case the tea party comes back in prominence? Then you risk it becoming completely irrelevant.

This is the reality of domain name investing and what I love most. It works like the real world. If you are not capitalizing on opportunities as they come or making them yourselves you are likely to miss out on your opportunity.
