What is considered a good domain/premium domain name

Hi.. The more i read the more confused I get. I am just curious what is considered a good domain name. Sometimes I see a domain name that makes no sense, but sell for thousands of dollars..then i see something that looks like a good domain nam but is considered worthless...Also is best to stick with .coms? My current portfolio is all .coms. Is it a sin to have numbers or hyphens in your domain name( i have seen conflicting information on that as well) or is it okay? A confused "noob" trying to sort my way through the jungle. Thanks for reading and answering.

Believe me, it's best to stick to .com. I don't believe I ever sold a non-.com at a profit. As a domainer, I don't like hyphens, but if developed they have potential. That's not all hyphens, I have a couple of hyphenated domains. But more than 1 hyphen, I really dislike. But they too have potential if developed.

non hyphen version got higher value. premiums are domains with good demand on its keyword or a 3 letter domain is also a premium(not so sure.)

there is also double or triple premium? so what are those? some sellers label all their domain premium..

I have been slowly acquiring domians, over the past few months, and I am now starting to develop some of them. Most of my domains are in pretty big niches, weight loss, affiliates, penny stocks, etc... I am trying to decided if I should start buying more concentrated niches. The only problem is I think they would be harder to sell.

the best domain names will have the exact key words you're targetting, I think that .co.uk is fine, if your business is locally focused. Although having the.com as well is recommended

I think you should have a moratorium on your buying, unless you can afford the loss. Decide what you are going to do with the domains you have. From the sounds of it, that's development. Get a sale or revenue under your belt first, to prove your methodology actually works.

Thanks Stub. That is what I am going to do/in the process of doing. Develop the current domains I have and monetize them. That way I assume I can demand more when I sell...

initial domains

ex:
wm.com could sell to walmart
fb.com could sell to facebook
f2u.com could sell to factory 2 you

keyword domains ex:
like.com
amazing.com
funny.com

"1 or 2 words"

otherwise:
established websites w/ traffic and even better income coming in

Try and always go for:
10 characters or less
memorable
easily pronounceable

I think FB.COM already sold to FaceBook. Not sure about the others. For me, 1 word nouns (and verbs) are the best, but they are usually very expensive. Two word domains are easily replaceable with other domains, but is where I do most of my business. I agree short is best. My limit is usually 12 characters, because domains with words of 6 and 6 syllables (or any combination up to 12) are ok. Much more is harder (but there are exceptions). I would have no qualms with zoomactive's limit of 10 characters.

Wow! Learning alot here, now i am looking over my portfolio of domains to see if my domains are 10-12 or less. I always wanted to make sure they were memorable and easy to pronounce, but never really paid attention to the length. Thanks for the input.

I recommend sticking to domains of topics you're interested in to start. That way, if you don't get a quick flip you won't be bored out of your mind developing a site. Also, if you believe the domain has some value to it it's MUCH easier to develop than a domain you think is crap.
