Renewal then Transfer Question

Are there any circumstances when 1 year would not get added when transferring a domain (unless it's over 10 years ahead)? I seem to have it in my head that 1 year won't get added if the domain was recently renewed. Am I right/wrong?

I do appreciate registrars like Fabulous and GoDaddy that allow transfer in & out of expired names.

I have a similar question, so maybe I can post it here...

I recently transfered a the domain p4rk.com from GoDaddy to NameCheap. However I didn't get the 1 year life extension as usual. The domain was set to "auto-renew" in GoDaddy, and it auto-renewed about 30days before the transfer.
As I know, and as they told me from NameCheap you are not getting the 1 year life extension if the domain had expired and re-activated in last 45days. Do you think that GoDaddy let the domains to expire and then they are reactivating them and renewing them or it's something else?
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/739321-renewal-then-transfer-question.html

In the whois info it has as creation date 2005, I wouldn't have 2011 if the domain had deactivated?

Thanks for your time.

More like they "followed to the letter" this old advisory:

http://www.icann.org/en/announcement...ry-06jun02.htm

Quote:
In summary, registrars should note (and advise their customers) that in most cases where a name is transferred within 45 days after its expiration/renewal date, the successfully transferred registration will only be extended by one year, not two years as might be expected.
That did offer a suggestion, though:

Quote:
Registrants who transfer names within the 45-day Auto-Renew Grace Period should check with the registrar from which they are transferring regarding a possible refund.
You know what to do.

To anyone who is interested in, I just recieved a refund from GoDaddy for the auto-renewal.
I would have never asked for the $12 if Dave hadn't inform me about, and GoDaddy would have never given me the refund if I hadn't asked for it...

Good to see! And that's considering that one moved away from the provider.

Good call on Go Daddy's part.

OK. I got this from the Dynadot website. I think it explains the situation (the best I've seen so far) http://www.dynadot.com/community/hel...on.html?aid=34

So my first post is correct if you amend to "expired and renewed, and then transferred within 45 days"

It's good to know that at least, Godaddy gives a refund. I'm glad to learn from this thread that it should be within the 45 days period.
