What kind of price should I quote?

A company who owns the .ca is enquiring me about my .com. They quote me CAD$100 for this dictionary .com. The company is a human engineering company that make use of human behavioural studies to help companies earn as much revenue as possible. Kinda like a psychological thing. It provide Canada and US services. I can see that it'll be expanding worldwide very shortly, this business has been around for 4 years. Is CAD$100 way too little?

$100 is nothing to almost any company...

"The company is a human engineering company that make use of human behavioural studies to help companies earn as much revenue as possible. Kinda like a psychological thing. I think you just answered your own question, tell them to study you so you can earn as much revunue as possible.

Taking the domain into consideration irrespective of this company, if the word you have is popular $100 is too low (as it is a dictionary word)
Taking into consideration the company which offered you, as it owns and operates on the sameword but with .ca, you should get way more whatever be the word is.

Without knowing all Data - I'd still say you may be Short changing yourself by Taking the current offer ~

Also :

Have you checked for the Holdings / Reputation of the Company yet ?

Also - Is there any PPC Bids / Direct Advertisers/affiliates you can use on it ?

Are you currently making any Income on it ? - Receiving Traffic directed toward them ?

Any (T)(M) Issues ?

~ All Determining Factors IMHO ~

Good Luck !!!

I wouldn't quote less than four figures US$ to start a negotiation.

$100 CAD = $80 US

I know this company has been working on many projects both in Canada and US. The domain I have is the .com version of their .ca company. As I do not know this company even exist (it is a dictionary word), I doubt they get copyright rights to have it from me through ICANN. If I quote a 4 digit offer, will that be fair? I am shocked they only quoted me a CAD$100 which is so little. I don't have an PPC with it as it is simply parked. Making no income from the domain. The president of the company is a professor herself and that her staffs are all like architects etc..

without knowing what their .ca site is it's hard to gauge them, I personally would investigate them more for finances and park it and see if it has any traffic, regardless of findings I think you should still be able to pull 250-500 minimum, hard without knowing their site.

When I get a lowball offer on a name I know has value, I make these type of comments to show comparative value. Marketing, Management, or Business Owners will be able to relate to these:

Quote:
A typical small (1 column inch) yellow page ad in a medium size city may cost $1500 a year or more, every year, can only be updated once a year, It also only covers a small geographic region. Do this in 2, 10, or 100 cities and the cost is phenomenal.

A typical small industry trade journal ad may cost $1000 for single insertion depending on the industry and circulation. It's probably in the trash just days after receipt and only seen once, and often only black & white.

A 3 day trade show booth can cost from $500 to $50,000 and higher, to put on for only a few days, with contact only with those who attend, who likely also attended your competitors booth.

A telephone, phone line, 800 number services and person to answer it who can only take one call at time 40 hours a week could cost $60,000 a year with benefits, every year. A website anchored by a memorable domain can answer many more customer questions, give consistently accurate information 24/7/365, doesn't call in sick, need medical benefits, a raise, or holidays and weekends off. You would invest a lot for a good support person or friendly and knowledgeable receptionist. Comparitively, a domain is cheap.

A Domain name is the key to your website and email identity, is a one time purchase other than nominal renewals, it's available 24/7/365, is genuinley unique, may never be available again, can be updated daily or more often, has no limit to the amount if information it can make available accurately and consistently an in multiple languages, is available worldwide, and probably represents a very small portion of the annual advertising budget.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/73026-what-kind-price-should-i-quote.html

Only you can decide if the long term value is what I'm asking, and decide your alternatives should you pass up this one time opportunity.
Industries are very different, so the above depends on whether you are talking to the local pizza parlor, a regional wholesaler, an international comsumer goods company, and the specifics of their customer territory, industry, and other available and similar domain options.

Domains DO have value, you just have to show comparisons to what they may already be used to.

Thanks alot, adoptabledomains. I will implement what you've shown in the next email I'm sending to them. In actual fact, I'm rather shocked that a big company earning a few hundred thousand in their first yr will actually offer a mere $100 for their company name.
