Question eBay domain auction and Adsense ad...???

Hm, posted this one in the wrong forum first (appraisals), so I hope it ends up in the correct one now...

Here we go:

I just saw this one here at NP:

It's an Adsense image ad that leads directly to an eBay domain auction.
(see attachment)

It leads directly to this auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MESE:IT
so I believe it's the guy/gal(?) who have paid for that ad himself, and not eBay..
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/71475-ebay-domain-auction-and-adsense-ad.html

That sounds like a real costly way of advertising your eBay domain auctions..
Text Domain ads can cost you $6-$8 pr click, and I would guess that an image ad can cost even more...

Anyone else who have tried using adwords linking directly to your domain auctions?
If so, any luck with it???

I've sent plenty of ppc Advertising to my Ads - But the ads were actually hosted on my sites .... Before everyone got wild on some of the Smaller ppc sites the last year or two - You could get a visitor for 0.05$ and if they would visit any of my ~bay listings - I got it right back through the affiliate link - If they were a first timer , I made even more + Got the Exposure to the Domain ....

I wonder if it was a direct link or going through the Aff link ??????

I bet it would work great on a Premium Name ... Say a 3 letter .Com or a Nice One worder ....
I always bid on the Keyword(s) related to the actual domain itself as well as some of the basic "Domain" Keywords ~ BTW

You can get this with adSense still for e.g. the term "domain name" at $0.06 - $0.10 if you do not look out for more visitors than 50/day, as it is just a question of position.

Ok this is too funny. I am the one showing the ad on AdSense you guys are talking about. I just happened on this forum by chance, just starting out selling domains this week. I am likely going to sell the domain for at least $150, and I set a maximum of $5 per day on AdSense with 50 cents per click maximum. I already got one private offer for $100 just from my adsense ad! I have gotten a lot of traffic to my ebay auction and that is where I got all the watchers for my auction. If you are selling a domain for only $10 or $20 it would probably not be lucrative, but if you have a domain that is going for more, I think AdSense was a great way for me to get exposure for my eBay Auction.

What is good about AdSense, is you can set a limit on how much it costs you when your ad is clicked on, and also a maximum per day. So if you add a huge ton of keywords and set a really low click rate, say 10 cents per click and a maximum of a dollar a day, that is still an extra 10 visitors to your auction!

If anyone wants me to detail my strategy, just drop me a line.

Interesting! Thanks for posting, DigitalAbstract. You're the first I've seen run a Adwords campaign to sell a specific domain. It's working so far?

Definately seems like it would be worth trying since you can specify at Adwords how much you're willing to spend to advertise per campaign.

I tried adsense before for one of my one-word product domains, and linked the ad to an afternic listing. It didn't do well at all, though. Perhaps linking to ebay is more effective since people recognize the ebay brand?

Thumbs up Status update on adsense

Well the auction ends in less than 24 hours. I got 184 hits so far to my ebay auction, which I think is really good for a domain name auction (at least I think, since I am new at this. If it isn't let me know). I have 4 people watching the auction and I did get one offer from someone off of ebay for $100. So even if the auction ends with no bid I will still be able to sell it to the other person and make a good little profit. The adwords really brought people to the auction. I will post an update tomorrow when the auction ends and let you know how I made out with my experiment.
