Whois info - Peeps Not changing it !

Whois info - Peeps Not changing it !

We all know (hopefully) by now that the Registrars do not always change the Whois info Automatically for you when a Domain changes hands. This is especially true when it is just a "Push" and not a "Transfer".
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/71289-whois-info-peeps-not-changing-it.html

Well - I'm getting pretty ILL ATM - because folks that have acquired domains from me in the Past haven't changed the Whois info on several (If there is an option to change it - I always chose this .... and if it's a Godaddy push - I ask for the buyer's Whois info myself and enter it myself unless I know them Very well) - and are now spamming Search Engine Submissions through my EMAIL. Not good if I intend to ever use this Email to submit some myself - Huh ?

How much time would you give them before you Busted their Bubble ?

I guess the whois info should ALWAYS be changed in advance from now on ! - But how many folks will give their true Whois ????

Grrrr

How far should I take the Burst ? - lol - With my Temperament ... It's usually best to Vent it a bit and then ask others opinions - Gives me time to cool down and think it out - lol (Not that this is Really Funny - But some of the things I could do about it would be to me ).

Appreciate your Vote of Support Grrilla

0 Tolerance is definitely correct ~

PM me. I'd love to hear about what some of the "Really Funny things" would be. I have the weakness of occasionally enjoying that area of endeavor, myself. Maybe swap some ideas.

If you are the only one listed as the owner on the domain, and your email is still active, you could easily transfer it back to yourself under the new ICANN rules. After all, you are listed as the registrant, right?

Email them giving them a couple days to comply, then just take it back as abandoned if they don't respond.

This is quite normal. What happens when you push or transfer a name to another registrar or account is that the new whois may not be not automatically "refreshed" at the registry level.

The problem is many people assume that it happens "automatically" with a transfer or push.

To avoid this, the new owner needs to go into the domain management panel, into the contact details/whois panel, and physically resubmit the details (in the case of eNom, by pressing the 'save changes' button) although the contact details show everything is updated. This sends a guaranteed request to the registry to update its whois.

I have had many names in the past that, to my shock, showed the whois of the seller although everything was properly "pushed" or "transfered". And that was because I just happened to check the whois on a whim and fancy. The domain control panel showed everything was right.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=71289

This seems to be happening only with .INFO, .BIZ, .US and .ORG on the new registry protocol. And it is irregular and inconsistent.

Best way is always to force refresh the contact details as a precaution. But if you were a seller of that domain, then it may be a good thing to remind them to do so, even if it was a .COM or .NET.

I have seen that as well, where the registrar and registry whois info is not in synch. In most cases, I've been able to change the nameservers to force a refresh. Even just swapping ns1 and ns2 so your site doesn't go down should work.

In this case, it sounds like that's not the problem. More like either a lazy buyer, unaware buyer, buyer who has effectively abandoned, or just doesn't know how to do it.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=71289

I've actually sold a few names, then caught them on a drop and resold them again to someone else. This way, it's totally above board. However, if the name is actually in use under my name, I would be concerned about being associated with it.

Update ~ lmao .... I've Been turned in for WDRP Compliance ... The Great part is I don't own the Domain any longer ....

It wasn't one of the domains I was speaking about above .... But one I bought for nothing on Ebay and Turned over immediately ~ The Email is the only accurate "Contact Info" left on the whois (For me that is - Not the current owner) As I have moved once since then.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=71289

Oh well ......

So, bring me up to speed. (I've been travelling- don't know what T-zone I'm on, yet).

I take it, in this case, the new owner didn't change the email contact over after purchase.

Reason I ask, is that I just transfered a bunch of names over to Enom, and received an email w/ individual confirmation links to each name. All of the email addresses are correct w/ the whois, so wondering if this confirmation step is necessary. Last time I received this, I just clicked on all the links to confirm to be on the safe side, but don't know if this is really necessary, in that the whois is already correct. ie if I confirm one name from the email, all of the names should be confirmed because they all have the same contact email.

I usually check anyway. I have occassionally found domains that had the registrar's name in one of the contact locations, a previous owner, or a temporary whois from drop service like pool or namewinner or a previous registrar from the transfer. Yes, if you got the email, at least one of them would be correct. You could get the email if only one of the registrant or admin is correct, but the other could be wrong giving someone else access to transfer authority or missing a notice.

The only good thing that could come of this? Someone contacts you wanting to buy the domain that you no-longer have Happened recently to me (Story in the "What do you wish you had..." thread) and while I wasn't able to negotiate anything directly, there still exists the possibility I'll make a $ on commission.
But yes, just checked all of my recently purchased to make sure I'm kosher (To avoid the wrath of Mark ) and all seems to be in order!
