SEDO question

hmmm... just noticed - with sedo they won't let you put in a bid under $60. Why is this, is there any way round it and are there any other companies like SEDO that allow smaller bids???

Thanks in advance! :-)

It is proabably because with www.Sedo.com, if the person selling the domain doesn't have it parked there, it is a $50.00 minimum charge. So, if someone didn't have it parked there, and you bid $50, the seller would get $0.00. The way it is now, the seller would get $10.

That's what I think anyway, maybe there is another reason.

SEDO currently charges 10% (minimum $50) per transaction for .com/.net. See full price list here. They do have a special offer, where if you park your domains with them you only have to pay 10%, with no minimum, however it is only available for US/Canada residents.

You can always look up the whois info and make a lesser offer directly. Most likely, if it's listed at sedo or afternic, they probably wouldn't accept less than $60 anyway.

Heck, I've got some at SEDO that I'd accept less than $60 on ;-) I just set all of their prices to $100, hoping that people will get the picture and e-mail me.

Would Sedo object (or is it against their TOS) if you put something like "This domain for sale, e-mail for info" in your WHOIS information? That would be a significantly less-subtle hint.

If you were in their situation would you object? I think I would. I'd go more subtle and just make sure something in your whois indicates the domain may be for sale and that it has good contact info. This is one reason I don't go for the whois privacy stuff on domains I plan to market. On mine, I usually list the company as "AdoptableDomains.com - Domain Development and Sales". Experienced buyers will know to look there, newbies are probably better off buying through the broker anyway.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/69349-sedo-question.html

Personally I think sedo and afternic should just charge 10% parked or not for domains under $60 if you opt out of escrow. They could make escrow optional ofr domains of under $75 or $100, similar to the bazaar auctions, or maybe even just a fixed sales fee of $5 or $10 for less than $60 domains. One size really doesn't fit all in the domain market.

And they could also understand that French people do not want to be ripped off only because they are French ...

The "no minimum commission offer when domain is parked as Sedo" works only for US residents ... I've sent them an email about, they answered very quickly (I'm realy satisfied on this point, they provide a good service) but a 50 € commission on a 100 € domain, that's too much.

I had to refuse two 100 € offers these last 2 weeks, just because I'm French !!

Grégoire.

You think you have it bad? I recently had a $110 offer on Sedo for sportscentral.co.uk. Not that I would have sold at that amount, but had I accepted the offer, Sedo computed my fees to be $100. No thank you, Sedo. Homey don't play that.

Where did they come up with that figure on a $100 sale?

That brings up a strange one I had at sedo couple weeks ago. I got an offer for $60, with a computed price of Sedo=$10, me= $50. it's a good four figure domain, so I counter offeredat about $950. The buyer sent a counter offer for $75 that calculated at Sedo=$50, me= $15. This leads me to believe the 10% no minimum only counts if you accept the first offer?

I think its more they are a serious player and they don't want small sales, they probably figure same amount of time for a $60 as $6,000 No value proposition there. IF you have a $60 domain better to sell in a forum. IMO

That would be quite fair if Sedo's fees included Nominet's transfer fees (35 GBP), transferring co.uk isn't that easy, as far as I've understood
