Find out the # of Whois Searches performed on your domains at GoDaddy

Before I tell how to find out the # of Whois Searches performed on your domains at GoDaddy, Full credit for the tip goes to "Nathan King" on another forum. I'm just sharing it with you since I find it very useful and interesting. I just downloaded my report and I see some of my domains received +1k Whois Searches in the current month.

In GoDaddy's Domain Manager, hold your mouse over the Tools tab at the top and select Exportable Lists. Next click the Add New Export button. You will see a drop down box. Select All My Domains and click next.

Now you can select which data you want to export. There is quite a bit of options to play around with here, but what we're interested in are Whois Searches - Previous Period and Whois Searches - Current Period. Make sure those two options are checked and click Next.

The final screen lets you select file type. I recommend CSV which can be opened with Excel. I also recommend you set Select Compression to "none". Name your list and click Finish. GoDaddy will take a few minutes to compile the list and will e-mail you when it's ready. You can then download it on the Exportable Lists page mentioned above.

Kind of an unnecessarily long process but nice information to have either way. It shows both the current and previous day, week, and month's statistics.

No, best feature is to transfer out domain in 10 min. to other registrar.

(mostly used when selling to end-users).
No need to wait 5 days, streching whole escrow process.

I've been using this feature since last year. Do not rely on it to make pricing, or renewal decisions. I haven't found any correlations between my sales and whois searches.

REMEMBER: Your whois count will show up even with bulk searches which means they weren't just looking at your name but yours may be in a list of hundreds. Spammers and sploggers do bulk too.

It's a "neat" feature but very skewed. Enjoy it but don't rely on it to make decisions.

I never mentioned it on my blog for the fear of a huge wave of renewals of garbage domains by others who think that a whois hit means an interest in the domain name.

Godaddy will benefit from your renewals but you may not…

BTW: If anyone tries to sell their domain names in the forums with the line: This names has gotten 100+ whois lookups this month, they'll really look like an idiot

this has been there for more then a year , if i check my domain database .
also, all the whois cannot be captured by the godaddy reports or by any other service provider

yes, this is the closest one can get for their domain and it's good it has been shared as it seems many did not knew about this

Pretty cool, but I agree that the numbers will be LARGELY skewed due to bulk searches. My random CCC.com's all have hundreds of views per month - I think it's safe to say that almost all of those are bulk.

Either way, cool to know that this exportable list thing exists!

It has been there for around 1 year. At first it seemed like valuable info, but now I view it more as entertainment than anything.

Consider how many people do whois searches not because they are interested in buying the domain, but because they are researching similar domains. Even just one person doing this can inflate the counts for one domain quickly.

Also, the counts during the period when a domain is for sale are not reliable.

(if you select all fields to be dumped, then you may not have the csv option).
