Geodomain Cheat Sheet (US Cities)

I'm sure many people have something similar or even identical to this already on their computers; however, it came up in conversation tonight as I was doing some trolling for availables and I thought I'd share it.

Below is a list of US cities over 100,000 population, from largest to (relatively) smallest. The spaces have been removed, and some cities have duplicate entries -- eg. Winston-Salem and WinstonSalem, StLouis and SaintLouis etc. Each city name has a number preceding and following it, which are used in sorting.

How I use the list, in case it is unclear, is that if I am looking to acquire geotargeted domains for a given niche, I pull up this list, select the top however many cities I want (there are just under 300 on the list) and then replace the 2 and 1 with the appropriate variables to creat a list of domains, which I then run through my registrar's bulk register feature to see which are available. For example, if I'm working in the beauty/hair niche I might delete the 2 and replace the 1 with Salon.com, giving me a large list of potential [city]salon.com domain names.

It's kind of a ghetto solution, but it is a time saver when trying to build geotargeted portfolios or campaigns.

Or you can just go to the census website and get every city in .csv format and trim out the stats and have a "complete" listing

Main page -->Population Estimates

Alabama through Missouri (4M) -->http://www.census.gov/popest/cities/...T2008-ALMO.csv
Montana through Wyoming (4M) -->http://www.census.gov/popest/cities/...T2008-MTWY.csv

Or the complete listing together:

http://www.census.gov/popest/cities/...ST2008-ALL.csv

Hope that helps someone out with there geo city needs....has been the most comprehensive list and is quite easy to build

I didn't claim the list was comprehensive; no idea why you're busting my balls on the post.

The list above is extremely easy to convert to CSV to be put into a database -- open it in a text editor, change the 1s to 1, save as CSV.

Thanks for this, I made the same list myself for pretty much the same reason but I am actually looking to expand beyond America, England and the well known countries and digging deeper into regions and smaller towns...

You haven't done a whole list of small towns or regions of the world have you? lol

@Blake

If I misunderstood your post, I apologise.

@Sparhawke

Let me know which regions you need and I'll see what I have or can produce out of the databases I use. Reply or PM if you prefer not to publicise your niches.

Parkinson's Disease Animal Cruelty
I don't have any specific niches, I was just wondering if you knew of any lists that have already been compiled, I have a list somewhere of many thousands of regions but much of it is in Arabic or Chinese so is not much use to me lol

Add to that the fact that you have Cape Town mixed in with American cities and everything else mixed in just one huge superlist and it becomes impossible to manage lol

For Example:

-1049671 Kassel
-1049670 Kingston
-1049669 Derry
-1049668 Birmingham
-1049667 West Palm Beach
-1049666 Springfield
-1049665 Philadelphia
-1049664 New York
-1049663 Modesto
-1049662 Milwaukee
-1049661 Lakeland
-1049660 Johnson City
-1049659 Hartford
-1049658 Fort Wayne
-1049657 Chicago
-1049656 Chattanooga
-1049655 Augusta
-1049654 Allentown
-1049653 Harare
-1049652 Ndola
-1049651 Kitwe
-1049650 Lusaka
-1049649 Port Elizabeth
-1049648 Pretoria
-1049646 Vereeniging
-1049645 Cape Town
-1049644 Johannesburg
-1049643 Beograd
-1049642 HÃ* Ná»™i
-1049641 Hải Phòng
-1049640 Da Nang
-1049639 ThÃ*nh phố Hồ ChÃ* Minh
-1049638 Maracaibo
-1049637 Maracay
-1049636 Caracas
-1049635 Barquisimeto
-1049633 Namangan
-1049632 Samarkand
-1049631 Toshkent
-1049630 Fargona
-1049629 Andijon
-1049628 Montevideo
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=659626
-1049627 Quad Cities
-1049626 Mobile
-1049625 Tucson
-1049624 Knoxville
-1049622 Daytona Beach
-1049621 Grand Rapids

Not particularly helpful is it? lol

Looking at that list, it's hard to see just what it's a list of, if that makes any sense ... how are these cities grouped?

As far as lists go, if you're looking for any particular region or by metric (population, per capita income, whatever) it is possible that I have a list in my DBs and would be happy to shoot it over to you. This is just research stuff of my own, not a professional service. So I may or may not have anything appropriate but happy to share if I do.
