Godaddy (and other registrars) Backorder Question:

Never done a backorder, but there's a name I want that's deleting soon so thought I'd add a backordering service to my 'try to get it when it deletes' method. I've gotten about half the names I tried for using my method, but I'd now like to do a backorder for this one also.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/646125-godaddy-and-other-registrars-backorder-question.html

Just had a look at Godaddy and couldn't figure it out. Type in the name for the reg search, comes up taken of course, and then no link so I can backorder it. Do I need to purchase the backorder service first, and then there'll be a form where I can enter the domain name for backorder?

Thanks for any tips. If you think there are better backorder services than Godaddy I'd like to hear that also. I don't know anything about this process or which reg's are better at it than others...

It will be in domain manager>buy/sell tab>backorder and monitoring
That's weird they don't have a link to backorder anymore, maybe because they know their backorder service is weak

I think if the domain is premium, and registered somewhere else it's always good to go with pool or snapnames (depending which registrar is dropping) I have used godaddy to catch a few .us, but if I'm not mistaken the domain shows up with a $10 bid in expiring auctions while dropping. good luck

It depends on the actual status of the domain, and where the name is currently registered.

If it resides at a registrar that is partnered up with a backorder/dropcatching service, then it will show up there for sale/auction before it is actually allowed to go through the delete process.

Is the domain you're after in pending delete stage right now?

I see a domain hold by godaddy reseller wild west.
Question,

If I backorder it successfully, will it go to public bidding?

I read the FAQ at GD its not clear how the process work?
1. Will there be a public auction even if I am the only one backordering?
2. There's a clause somewhere that the registrar can auction names it own.

Does that mean? if you backorder something good, it will be auction off anyway?

Yes, all expiring domains registered through Godaddy or Wildwest will be available for all to see on their aftermarket.

Thanks for your responses;
The name is in redemption but I expect it'll enter pending delete pretty quick, as it expired about 2 months ago. It's past the reactivation stage so the registrant would have to pay a couple xxx to save it... and it's a name I doubt anyone would pay that amount for. I wouldn't, and I want it a lot

Oops, change that, it probably won't be deleted: The name is at Nameking.com. I just found out Pool does their dropcatching, so I assume I'll have to go thru Pool, yes? Since Nameking deals with a dropcatcher I suppose there's no chance of picking the name up on a deletion, unless there are no bids for it ever and they finally let it go later?

I don't have an account at Pool and I won't set one up at the moment; does anyone have any other suggestions? Or is Pool the only way of getting this one?

Thanks

Registrar / Drop-catcher partnering only matters for domains that don't delete.

If the domain truly deletes, then it's a luck of the draw who gets it. In that instance, you need to look at what drop-catcher(s) have the largest registration network (drop-catching registrars) and/or pricing that fits your budget.

I think if nobody backorders it at Pool before it enters Pending Delete it will drop. You should then have backorders in place at the big three dropcatchers, Snapnames, NameJet, and Pool. If somebody backorders it at Pool before Pending Delete status, then you must backorder it at Pool in order for you to be included in the closed auction that will follow, else the other backorderer will win the domain outright.

businessloansmall is an unknown quantity at this point

Still trying to understand

I'm still trying to understand how the backorder works. What is the likely hood that i am going to win the domain after trying to purchase it for instance with godaddy?

How do different services like godaddy win the "auction for you."

GoDaddy is pretty much hopeless as a backorder service. You need to use SnapNames, NameJet, & Pool if you want to capture a dropping domain. Now, depending where the domain is registered, it might be possible to slim down the choice.
