Best place to list Links.com

Hi everyone,

Where is the best place to list Links.com other than Sedo? At this time I am not interested in a broker but just to give Links.com some visibility as I develop it. Thanks for the advice.

If your developing, why would you list the domain name for sale?

If your looking to actually sell the domain name, you may want to consider putting it up in a T.R.A.F.F.I.C. auction. Get some live bidding going.

If your not selling, why would you list it for sale? seems like the wrong kind of exposure to me.

I am not interested in auctioning the site. I expect that a sale of this site to take multiple years (as most commercial property). So, I am looking for a place to begin a listing and gradually develop visibility for the site. Not much different from pre-advertising any property that will eventually go on sale. As for now, I have many projects in mind that I will implement in order to gradually increase traffic and value in the site.

I mean, you can write your own story.

Hey there, allow comments. This will draw more visitors so that they will comment (boosting their search engine values).

You need visitors. Should enable the comments. (don't do moderated comments)

Rich,

Development only creates more value if your generating revenue or the potential for revenue. Trying to get exposure for a site that your building seems premature.

I think building the site up into something that another company would want to acquire is where you'll want to go and in that case, Domainers are the last people you want to deal with.

Hi Justin,

Right now I am focused on building steady and meaningful traffic. It is a tough hill to climb but I am slowly making progress. Visibility never hurts and one never knows what might happen from it. Sir Donald Trump and his marketing methods are good examples. :-)

I won't normally recommend Afterscrap (AfterNic).... but that is another option. I list there, but only for visibility and tasting interests ....but not to sell names unless someone wants to buy manthisdomainnamesucksass.mobi for $ 10,000

It's because their business practices suck and they are notorious for pushing their own inventories ahead of their customers when you look at how they market domain names on their platform.... especially after buydomains aquired them a few years back. Unprofessional IMO and this blew a hole in the bottom of their ship big time. Caused everybody to bail. And they charge $20 to list names.

I guess business practices are pretty poor across all listing brokers which is why I came here to ask.

My own experiences with Sedo were extremely poor. I listed Links.com briefly and requested a premium listing. They never replied to my request. So, I removed the listing. Then, about a week later, I get this call from some Sedo representative that they would like to auction off Links.com in a auction that was just a few days away and with a $100,000 reserve. They were literally trying to steal the domain right out from under me.

Now, don't get me wrong. I have seen this type of surly behavior in all industries - including our friends on Wall Street. But at least the Wall Street guys don't treat me like I am some sort of idiot. Sedo isn't even good at hiding their nefarious intentions. They are not only underhanded - but they are not even good at it. Maybe Afternic is worse. Who knows.

In any case, I would like to stay a good light year away from all of these brokers and just find a good place to list Links.com. Maybe Ebay! :-)

Well, Sedo may also be incompetent as well as underhanded. Who knows? The two do go together.

But, I will tell you this. If I ever do decide to sell the name, it won't be through some incompetent broker who is going to put it on the block on a few days notice (without any kind of marketing whatsoever), so that it can be scooped up at some rock bottom price. I would have had to be totally out to lunch to accept their offer.

It is highly unlikely that I would ever use a broker to sell Links.com, since there are no ethical rules that govern the domain brokering business as far as I can tell. I could be wrong and correct me if I am. I would probably just have to sell it on my own if I could not find a reasonable listing site.

Yes, I have no interest at this time in selling it since I have several projects in the works that I hope will incrementally increase traffic.

In so far as selling the domain is concerned, if and when I ever do it, I will definitely sell it on Ebay before I ever give it to the likes of Sedo. My motto is, if I am going to use unethical brokers at least use smart unethical brokers. :-)

I would scrap this motto. A smart unethical broker and a stupid one are both unethical. The smart one actually may be more dangerous. Ebay is not the place to be looking for serious interest for domain names. I really don't know what else to add... but good luck with the name!

What you're trying to do here smacks of someone who got a heavy hitting offer but has no idea what to do, so now, you're over-estimating our own ingenuity and instead of entering into a real negotiation process, you think hard-to-get games like a 15 year old girl at prom is the best strategy- by posting it for sale on SEDO while simultaneously making a post on Namepros (that you know the offer-er will see) about how it's "not for sale".

This sort of behavior belongs on a peddlers blanket at an open-air market in Kurdistan, not in the world of high caliber domain names.

But I think you should be more concerned about the unethical practices in the brokering industry than my simple goal to list a domain. As I said, this will be a v-e-r-y long selling process - so we must all have patience. OK?

Smart ones are definitely more dangerous which is why I rather have them on my side then against me.

I actually just checked out Ebay. Too bad. They are not really set up to highlight true premium domain names. Otherwise, I would actually put a listing up there. I am not prejudiced. :-)

Hmmm ... I'll have to give this more thought since both Sedo and Afternic both seem to be out of the running. Sellers are really at a major disadvantage in this industry. Well, that is life. (c'est la vie).
