Just thought I'd start a thread on snagging emerging tech domains and where to look for them..

Here's an article on Vonage and their plans for a WIFI-enabled phone:

wifiphone.ws is still available, btw. Other ext already taken.

I like to scan Slashdot (for example) for emerging tech ideas.. anyone else have any other favorites, comments, or contributions?

Interesting travel destinations are also a good bet... I read today that Kansas is voting on state-run casinos in Wichita, Kansas City, and Galena... they hope to allocate 200 million dollars for the casino in Galena, KS as more than a million people live within a 75 mile radius. Projected earnings are over 280 million a year.

galenacasino is available in all ext.

wichitacasino is available in .us and .info.

Just an interesting bit of spec..

Anyone have similar bits of news?

Check out Gizmondo.com... with all we hear about the Sony PSP and the Nintendo DS.. here's a device that's newly emerging and full featured. Bet you never heard of it.

Surely there must be some advantage to regging a domain for new gizmos!

Any comments?

Not necessarily.. just trying to get people brainstorming regarding the domain selection process..

I happen to think emerging tech shows the most promise because it's essentially a virgin field. If you choose correctly and early, you can easily be top dog AND bread winner.

Those who speculated in EVD and FVD domains, for example.. there may be a wait for the tech to emerge and become dominant, if at all, but the domain game is about speculation.

I make it my daily routine to check out The Drudge Report, CNN, Slashdot, etc. looking for new items of potential interest...

Just wondering if we can get a thread going here about interesting news bits that might be good bets for domains, etc.

I subscribe to business tech magazines on and offline. I agree that it is a good strategy but as many researchers in science and technology fields are Internet savy, often I find that the absolute best keyword is taken in dot com but nice variations are usually available. An example is perpendicular magnetic recording or PMR which is an emerging technology in hard drives (proto-type this year, production 12-18 months out). I picked up pmrdrives.com and a couple of others a while back. May pay off, may not but things like this make the hunt for names interesting and educational too.

One term that I've come across a lot lately is WAP.

Short for the Wireless Application Protocol, WAP is a secure specification that allows users to access information instantly via handheld wireless devices such as mobile phones, pagers, two-way radios, smartphones and communicators.

Some pretty good unreg'd wap names out there still...

Here's an idea that may catch on: a site dealing in forum post exchanges... say you have a new forum.. you post that you need posters and are willing to post on forums of a like interest. Think it would catch on? Kind of like a traffic exchange but with posts...

I think Broadband Over Powerline is the next big thing (just google it) despite the fact that this technology is doomed.

So I got these awhile ago:
