G' afternoon folks,

I have been a domainer since 2005, owned almost 2000+ domains (at one time) and now dropping 90% of domains to get off from domaining!

During this four years, i registered domains all over different registrar.
I had about 51 domains at 1and1. Like other registrar, I simply ignored all the renewal reminder(payment due mail) thinking the domains will be dropped and deleted.

Yesterday, I received a call from NCO financial(debt collection agency) for a balance of $1569.21.
I talked with them and found out the debt was from 1and1 who reported to NCO for non-payment!

Any of the nameproer happened to be in similar situation?? If I dont pay the balance, will it affect my credit?? They said its on my credit file! Any ideas would be appreciated!! %%-

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Yeah they got me too. I even canceled the domains but they have another trick of calling it a "package" which you buy your domains with it seems so you have ot cancel the package as well. I told them to go f*ck themselves and hung up. I'm not kidding either.

I owe them $1000 too for a month of bandwidth overcharge. It's a long story but the short story is I will never pay them.

I sent a letter back to NCO disputing the "debt" and never heard any more from them.

I have never seen a good post about these people, 1 and 1, they appear to be complete low life's who have no business ethics and cannot be trusted.

On the registrar scale of 1 to 10 they appear to not even register a positive score.

They are a blight on the industry IMO.

Don't give them a cent. :td:

The fact is - They will end up screwing up your credit. Request your free credit report. I won't be surprised if your have negative points on it.

wow its been a while since ive last read 1&1 horror story but they seem endless, its sad to see those guys had been stealing for ages now. can't we do anything against them like report them to ICANN?

Have the domains in fact been renewed? That's probably the first thing you should verify. I would make sure that they are renewed and still in your name. I would imagine your registrar account will be frozen until payment is made, but I would definitely verify that they even performed the services they are claiming. It is 1and1 we're talking about, so I wouldn't put it past them.

Secondly, were these names set to automatically renew in your account? If so, there's nothing you can do except pay your bill and learn to turn off automatic renewals in the future. If they weren't set to renew automatically, then I would dispute the charges through NCO. This will definitely effect your credit report if you do nothing.

ICANN enforcement is a sad joke.
Search this forum for RegisterFly if you want to see how ugly things really can get.

1and1 horror stories continue :)
When I was a noob I regged some names there. Fortunately I learned fast and only had a dozen or so there before I figured out just how terrible they are for domainers. I won't even get started listing the things again, have contributed to many threads about them, but here's a tip:

They made it almost impossible to figure out how/where to cancel my domains and packages, can't even remember how I found the link but if you go to
cancel.1and1.com
and log in, that's where you have the option to cancel anything you have with them. You must cancel manually like this or they keep charging you. If they can't find a way to charge you (like your credit card is expired or whatever), then unlike other registrars who will simply drop your name in that case, 1and1 will KEEP adding to your charges until finally they send your account to a collection agency.
The people who run it have less than ground level class and ethics, and they're making a lot of money off it.
Keep spreading the word, that's all we can do for now. Or is it?

are there still people using that company?????

I can`t believe it....I would not use them not even if they gave me free domains.

In fact, I lost a 2 chars .org thanks to them.

Ditto. I had nothing but trouble with this company when I first started out. The worst control panel I've ever known and poor customer service.

Hello All,

Top of the day to you.

I'm very afraid :-/ of what you're saying because i have almost all my DNs with them. I've activated the automatic renewal. I'm a new domainer so all of my DNs have less than one year age.

Please advice :-/

Warm Regards

The company does not quite understand how to work with domainers (high volume customers). If you understand their system, they are an OK company to deal with. They have a very rigid system and not very customer friendly (atleast what we are used to here in the US)

I moved all my domains after they raised their domain prices and would not give a bulk pricing deal.

Currently, if you email their customer service asking how to cancel a domain or product they reply with that link (did it for a client a few weeks ago).

The link (while you shouldn't have to email customer support to find out what it is!) is an improvement over their previous system - at one point, didn't you have to fax something to Germany or something ridiculous like that?

Bottom line though is that WE're all used to registrars where, if you don't actively renew a domain, it drops. The opposite is true at 1&1.

I have heard horror stories as well about 1&1. Another registrar to be weary of is Triple (com). They are froze, probably for good, with no way to get ahold of support and the toll free # is out of service. And no way to transfer domain names out. :-/
