are NPOs good buyers?

I got a low offer from someone stating to represent a non profit organization, less then what i paid for it

does it make sense to try to counter offer, do experienced sellers have success with getting higher prices from NPOs?

ICANN is iteself technically a non-profit -- non-profit doesn't by any means mean a company can't splurge on a domain or something far more trivial. Many domainers on this board have sold domains to non-profit organizations. These organizations seem to be much more likely to request an NDA, so we never hear about many of them. If you think you can get more for your domain, by all means ask for more. Why not phone them up and give them a speech on the value of a good domain and why they need yours

I get offers all the time from "non profits". It is normally a scheme to get the domain for cheaper.

A few months ago I had someone offer $100 for a premium .ORG domain. They were from a "non profit". When I researched it I found out it was actually a massive company. In the end though after a sarcastic response from me, they upped their offer and bought the domain for significantly more.

Isn't the sale tax deductible or something if a NPO buys it?

Non Profit does not necessarily mean no money.

I have sold quite a few names for $xxx / $xxxx to genuine NPO's who recognise the importance of having a good name for their organisation. I treat them like any other potential customer, ie try to get a win-win deal good for both parties. I may give some discount if their area of operation particularly clicks with me.

Yes, there are many "non-profits" that collections millions of dollars of revenue every year and pay their employees generously. Don't be confused by the term, it doesn't mean they are necessarily operating on a shoe string (although some obviously are).
