Wow, I just checked a few (not to buy, but to see if anyone was sick enough to buy them) and it is crazy how many .com's, .net's and .org's are gone related to his death. This thread could easily turn into a battle like the MJ one, but I am just shocked that this happens on the scale that it does.

Saw this thread about 5 mins ago and thought it was a joke.

But then clicked open CNN, as I do everyday, and yikes ... Billy Mays really is dead. And he was age 50 too, same as Jackson.

Yes it's been a sad week still can't believe Michael has gone I hope Patrick stays strong been a fan since watching Road House all those years ago.

Guys, people will ALWAYS register domain names after tragedies and deaths. It's been happening since the beginning of domains, and will happen until the end of domains. There are 6+ billion people in this World. There's always going to be at least ONE person that thinks registering "current event" domains is a good idea, regardless of how tragic the event may have been.

Most of these domains are worthless anyway, why give them any attention at all?

To digress a lot ... it's amazing former Vice President Cheney is still alive despite all his health problems and stress; many never thought he'd make it through his first term let alone his second - one truly can't predict the future when it comes to one's health...

Another example is Robert Atkins, who created the Atkins diet, ended up only living a slightly below average length life despite being wealthy and living healthy. And the guy who wrote the book "1000 Places to See Before You Die" only made it to age 47. Rambling on.

Getting back to the topic at hand, I wonder if many more celebs and other noteable folks will have their legal team / computer guru pre-emptively register "death" variations of their name to keep them out of the hands of speculators, etc.

You are right about them being worthless...Last year you could hardly move on eBay without running into another AnnaNicoleSmithisDead.com type of domain listed for sale. Bet they didn't sell then, can't even give them away now, and that most have dropped.

Sad, i was just watching a doc about the guy a few weeks ago.. MJ too.. I grew up to him.. Life goes on, makes everyone want to start taking better care of themselves. 50 is way too young to go.
