.net and double keyword question

Im just looking for everyones thoughts. I want to develop a keyword but the .com is taken. .net is open. If I develop the .net would I have a harder time with SEO than I would with the .com. I mean, does google treat .com and .net differently?

Also, what about double keywords? For example, cashcash.com or something similar. How would SE's treat domains with double keywords differently than the single keyword?

SEO will be the same. Go for it.

double keyword I am not sure, but will assume that it will not be as good as the single keyword. Personally I would avoid the double, unless people actually search for it.

.com has more value than .net only to domainers. Search engines don't make any difference between them. To be honest, they don't make any difference even between .com's and .biz's. If a .biz is fully developed and its .com counterpart is simply parked, there's no way SEO will promote the .com over .biz

Thanks guys. It just so happens that the .com counterpart to the great .net keyword is parked so I think ill move forward with developing that name.

I assumed that double keyword wasnt as strong as the keyword by itself since searching the single keyword and the double keyword bring different results with the double always being fewer results.

Thanks again for the information guys.

I have several .net sites - all four are on page one of Google for their keyword phrases. The domain is an important factor in search engine positioning but it doesn't do much good to be on page one of Google or Yahoo for a phrase noone searches for. On the other hand a one-word domain will also have millions of competing results fighting for that page one ranking. So a two to three word domain for a searched phrase is often a nice combination.

As far as the double keyword I'm no SEO expert but unless the double keyword phrase is a search phrase, I'm not sure if there is any benefit. For branding purposes, it seems to me users would look at such a domain as sort of spammy.
