newbie domainer with serious questions

Buying:
Seeing cheap rates, has me interested in buying domains and buying domains on ebay, obviously I would use my judgment as always online however what precautions can I take to ensure the following and what other steps should be taken before buying a domain?
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/592116-newbie-domainer-with-serious-questions.html

1) What if it is banned from Google or another search engine? How do I find out

any other help appreciated, long time designer first time domain purchase outside a registrar. I am looking at buying on eBay.

Value

I know that the following is not a good idea...

z at the end of a word instead of s
my at the begining
any others that I should look into before buying?

a domain like openroad.com would be good correct?

any tips / pointers on hot markets or other info a newbie should know?

Where do people get domains so cheap and most are godaddy? I know godaddy refunds you if you register the wrong domain if reported with in a day or so of registration so do these domains get sold in bulk to resellers, am I missing something how a $7-$8 domain is being sold for $1? Used terapeak.com and found many.

Thanks!

Use caution when buying or selling on eBay. A lot of scammers who pay with Paypal and do charge backs, you pay and they do not transfer the domain etc. Watch trader feedback ratings.

To see if a domain name is Blacklisted, use Whois.sc and there is a section that will show if the domain is blacklisted.

Value... domains are only worth what somebody is willing to pay!

Godaddy and all other registrars No Longer offer "refunds" on domain registrations. This was called "Domain Tasting" or "AGP" which is no longer available. Registrars can delete domains in the AGP, but they can only do a small % with a fee. You will not get to delete and get a refund for many if you do get one.

Read around the forums, domain blogs etc. You can learn a lot, but make sure you learn from the right people. Not everything wrote will work for you or is considered "correct" by the majority.

Thanks, Never thought to look at domaintools.com "funny"

I believe GoDaddy still offers that refund in a certain time frame and the reason why I say that is I know a few employees at GoDaddy who works there and I am located about 5 miles from GoDaddy so that is how I know some connections, never needed it myself however I still hear about it.

Dont be so sure about "my" not being a good prefix for a domain name. Ive sold several that begin with "my" for very good money (one was 5k).

BTW - Welcome in PHX are you?
