1-800- domain names

Hi,

I am in a private auction for 1-800-jobs.com what you guys think of over all 1-800 domains and should i spend some money to acquire this domain or it will be waste of money?

My other domain in namejet auction is VATN.com. What you guys think how much should i risk money on this domain.

Thanks
Adnan

I'd save the money. As there are 7 numbers in a US phone number (minus the area code), and JOBS is only 4 characters (numbers), I doubt you'd find a phone number to go with it. And since a '1-800' domain would imply that it is a toll free number, seems it would be very disappointing, and confusing, to endusers/surfers if no phone number was associated with it. A name like 1-800-GetAJob.com would be more condusive to it's overall implication of being both a domain and a telephone number.

I'd say, bow out of the auction, and spend your money on a name that is not so confusing.

I registered 1800fund.com & 1800fund.tel. The benefit is that it's memorable, offers both a website and point of contact. A two click process for placing a .tel phone until phones become .tel aware. I wouldn't go more than four or five characters beyond the 1800 though - that might create the potential for misdials on a traditional phone. Also, watch your TM issues. There are plenty of 800 numbers that are trademarked.

Waste of money. Unless you have the 800 number - you've only got 1 end-user.

More proof that the 'real' money in domaining, is in being a registrar! Why bother having the 1800, if it doesn't mean it's a phone number??? You may want to cover your bases and go reg 1976Fund, 1866Fund, 1877Fund too. Then you'd have an even happier registrar!

Not to steal the thunder here, but I own all of the following and would be up to selling the entire package:

DOMAINS:
1-800-WiFi.COM
1800WiFi.COM
1-800-WiFiCOM.com
1800WiFiCOM.com

Toll Free Number:
+1-800-WiFi.COM (1-800-943-4266)

ALL letters, including the .COM portion, are utilized and accounted for within the whole numeric equivalent.

What's being overlooked is that a .tel domain is the new "vanity number."
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=584847

Even as I write this, there are existing apps and apps in development for Blackberry, iPhone, GPhone, etc. that will make the address books and dialers .tel aware. With .tel, you don't need to ever recall or store a phone number - just a name.

It's time to start thinking outside the [numeric] key pad.

that's interesting. seven letters, so it's the right number of digits for a telephone number. but if the person who owns the phone number that corresponds to 1800BuyGold isn't a gold dealer, he's probably gonna get pretty annoyed when the phone calls start coming in.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=584847

i went on a jag some months ago and registered three 1800 domains, making sure there were the proper number of characters. i thought i was pretty clever. great key words, too (wine bar, burrito and hot lady). only later did it occur to me that the optimum buyer would be the person who already owned the corresponding 800 numbers.

sort of created a marketing conundrum.

Actually, it is a nice idea. It is sort of double marketing since you are promoting your vanity toll free number at the same time. But the problem is a user required to access those hyphens when typing this URL.

You need to find the right 7-9 digit combination to make your vanity brand work [ see my portfolio -Fortune800Brands ]

I'm also sure that most domainers are not even knowledgeable as to 'how to purchase' a 1-800 vanity number (with all rights). Currently, I'm in the process of acquiring several premium 1-800 numbers as their are less than 1 million left in the pool.
