What do you guys think to registering a domain (an acronym) where every other possible extension in the world is taken by a famous conglomerate...?

And if any of you clever so and so's out there figure out what i am talking about, please dont post any details here....

I guess it would depend on your level of tolerance for C&D letters. If one company has taken all the extensions, I can only imagine they'd send you one if they found out.

Tough call,
Andrew

I would personally give it a try just for the thrill of dealing with a famous conglomerate. Having said that, I would be ready to give up the domain name at any given time should the company requests it be transferred to them to avoid any trouble. Any incentives in between are added bonus. Just my personal thoughts!

If you are only losing the reg fee it is not that much of a gamble (unless it a ridiculously priced .tv or the like) so I'd say go for it and reg it

I would say go for it. If you have an alternate use for it, shouldn't be a big deal. Just the same, be prepared to hand it over if it comes to that. Good luck with it. I love the beach!

It would also depend on the acronym. In this case, "incredible beach moments" would probably be the last thing on the mind of anyone seeing that very famous acronym. My gut feel is that the big corporation in this case may have a good chance of taking the domain from you if they are so inclined.

Good luck, brave Ian!

Is the acronym (or however it's spelt) a Trademark itself? I would say tell the company about it and see if they give you some free stuff/discounts on stuff. Whatever you do I wish you good luck.

Well reading through the last few posts you just said IBM, tell them about it and see if they'll give you a free computer (or whatever it is they make).

hotmail.biz is already regged. Did anyone here register it? Or did someone tell hotmail, or was it regged for a while.

Mike Rowe only got a free X-box: Don't you think you could do a little better?
Nasty corporate attorneys can be very unpleasant, though.
Oh, and be sure and have a good firewall, hardware-style, and be sure and use 128 bit encryption if you have a wireless hub.

I have a similar situation with a domain name, but it's a hyphenated three- worder .com of a cruise line. (maybe I can trade it for a free cruise?) Do you think it's bad to have it parked?
(I'd hate to show bad faith over the $.07 it's generated in revenue...)

I honestly dont know what you mean..... Its not my fault 'incredible beach moments' has the same acronym as an apparent well know company.

I guess beaches existed before they did anyway...??

No, wait a minute, im not sure on that last point.. And if they did want it, you'd think someone from their phillipines division might have had the slightest incline to go on and register it by now?

As Winnie said, "I will fight them on the beaches - incredible beaches"

Ahhhh...I hope you don't mind my saving your site in my desktop: I get a real
serene feeling when looking at it.

If your site stays that way, even if you don't reply, IBM or any TM holder to
the letters IBM will be hardpressed to prove you don't have legit interests or
you got it in bad faith.
