   | Any Idea why TLD ".web" was denied by ICANN ?? Please!!!...can anybody explain why ICANN denied TLD ".web" while issuing failure TLDs like ".biz"..??? Pls. provide links if possible... Thanks & Regards. |

The extension is only one factor in the decision, the financing, management skills, partnerships, and politics of the proposer are also factors. At the time, the most popular domain was (and still is) .com. BIZ was probaby seen as a good alternative to .com at the time for businesses, whereas .web would be more of an alternative to .net which is good and has names available when compared to .com. Someone naively thought businesses would accept .biz as near equal to .com. Don't count out .web yet. It's highly likely it will be in the running for the next round of gTLD's in 2005-2006.

| It (.web) is schedualed to be overviewed as a non sponsered tld sometime in 2005. After the current sponsored tld's .travel, .post, .asia etc get get the run through by ICANN. It should be noted, none have been given the green light. I too hope this extension finally materializes (being a bit bias since I have some "stock")

| Nice observation & remarks Mark !!! But... don't you agree that ICANN was a "crippled mother" while giving birth to sick children like ".com", ".net" and ".org"... Wasn't the group of people (running ICANN at that time) "Tunnel Visioned" while defining the SCOP or coverage area of mother TLDs (.Com, .Net & .Org) ??
