![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I was surprised at the number of domains that were Passed and unsold. Some really good ones too, like DiscountTravel.com. The starting reserve was $100K, but you could open a complete online travel business with a name like this. Most new businesses spend close to this on leasing and re-fitting a one-time bricks and mortar store.. |

????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=554805 I agree that this would be perfect for an end user. But I wonder: are these auctions being advertised to potential end users? If I were the owner, I'd be getting press releases and emails out there to a targeted market. Other domainers are not going to pay end user prices. *

????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=554805 I very much doubt that little if any effort at all is put in to aiming at end users that is definitely reflected in the very low prices for some great names- yes I know there is a recession but it was the same before this sorry global meltdown occurred. Possibly a lot of the problem related to promoting to end users is the many hundreds of names on offer. Individuals may wish to do their own promotion but it really should come down to the auction houses putting more effort in to it- they might even make more money But perhaps the outlay/effort negates the returns Would be interested to know.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Missing the boat? Not much effort to draw in the big money ... end users. This is like Wot says, a ongoing problem. Just like leadership in politics the lights are getting dimmer in marketing. I mean individual domainers make more effort sometimes to reach end users. I saw some ads in the Wall St journal a while back where a domainer placed 3x4 ads in the classified. He was smart, his ads were for small businesses and his domains were perfectly matched to the business that represents thousands and thousands of the same kind of business owner. ????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=554805 Wouldn't it be nice to open the Wall St Journal and see some kind of marketing for these types of auctions. A ad like this... Bid online at auction for your internet traffic domain name and grow your business. Goodkarmaco Domain Auctions. lol. Its a splash, attention getting and more than likely a money making campaign. I suppose it takes momentium to get these kinds of balls rolling. We are still taking baby steps here. Its too damn bad in my opinion. The economic landscape is one of fright. Right now would have been the day to fill the basket with golden goose eggs. Money is just sitting on the sidelines as investors have left the normal investment vehicles. Spotlighting domains for end users should be seen in every major magazine for business and certainly featured in business newspapers. The domain auction houses missed the other big boat by missing this concept as they grew inventory of domains and next thing they knew they had several million domains for sale. The end result of that was they spent their energy promoting ppc and built out ppc programs. At the same time they made grand statements to sell your names by joiining them. We joined them and by that I mean we had our names in all those auction houses. Too much of anything lowers price and one gets lost in the crowd. Now if (they may have) the auction house management had spent some of those ppc profits directly and consistantly into mainstream business trade magazines and business newspapers like the Journal it is my opinion they would be enjoying a brisk online domain auction business today. It is so easy of a concept to understand.. put domainers domains into business owners hands and then taking a cut. Everyone benefits.

I caught a couple conversations with some people post-DOMAINfest and they just said they've been buying differently now-a-days. Before they could monetize names better, and these days... less. | ||||

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I couldn't agree with you more, goodkarmaco. The best way to increase sales is increase awareness outside the domaining industry and spark some excitement in the endusers. I would expect bringing in "new money" would increase competition and result in increased sales across the board -- quantity sold, selling price and total $'s spent on domains. Putting out some PR pieces about domain prices and getting some good press exposure just prior to the ad runs would also help pull in the new money.
