the ten commandments of domaining?

As some of you may know I have a new blog! so I figured I would use np for content ideas.

here is the task...help me compose the ten commandments of domaining, the holy grail for noobs. whitch I well then post on my blog.

ps to experienced domainers. if you would like to be a guest blogger let me know please.

1.) Research
2.) Buy domains that have a clear use. If you can't picture a use, neither can an end user in general.
3.) Diversify. Learn about a few different niches and stick to those.

( IMPORTANT: Thou shall be dispatched directly to hell for registering a domain name that contains two or more hyphens. )

I totally disagree with this one. If you know what you are doing hyphenated domains offer a huge ROI. I have made many big hyphenated sales.

As long as the domain is two keywords separated by one well placed hyphen they are easy to find end users on.

I have found end users care more about keywords in a reputable extension than a hyphen in a place that makes sense.

Domains that work are things like.
Stock-Market.com
Solar-Energy.com

Thou shalt not register domains related to a natural disaster or tragic event.(Unless the sole purpose is to donate it to a victim's fund, etc.)

thou shalt not "kill" domains/owner that did not do anything to you by registering the owner's surname and/or registering "sucks" after it just to annoy the owner (speaking from my own experience)

- only choosing .com
- thinking hyphens are bad
- not looking at ccTLDs
- looking for the quick buck

Yes .COM is the king, but offer a far lower ROI than other options like NET/ORG and hyphenated domains.

Yeah, noobs would be better staying away from hyphens because it takes research to understand what type of hyphenated domains work. If they are willing to put in the work, there is massive ROI potential.
