Registered a name through tdname which i thought was forex-trading.org. Imagine my surprise when the transaction completed mail came through and i had instead registered forex--trading.org (two hyphens). I thought i really must start laying off the turps...brains cells are diminishing rapidly, eyesight failing.

But, when i checked back on the name the two hyphens were joined making one slightly longer one...a trap for over enthusiastic buyers like me!!!

Yeah, I have noticed the same thing before. Instead of having separate hyphens it just looks like one long hyphen. If you have no reference point to compare it to then it can look like one hyphen.

Contact GoDaddy.com and let them know it was confusing. See what they say.

Never hurts to double check things via Whois....

forex-trading.org Expires 7-30-2009
forex--trading.org Expires 10-4-2009

You can also visit the domain itself.

One interesting thing, forex--trading.org is on a Parked.com page? All expired Godaddy domains are on Godaddy servers.... Maybe the owner reclaimed or this was listed by a member?

Either way, I could see how somebody could miss this.

i have had this problem before.. What I do is generally copy and paste domains into notepad when they have hypens. Hyphens are deceiving. I generally dont buy domains with them in it.

I just avoid hyphens all together. If the idea to register was because it would get good search results, that would not be affected. If you were hoping for type-in or branding, the singel hyphen would have been weak to begin with.

Regarding a solution, Call GoDaddy. They will sometimes throw you a bone.

Hyphenated domains are hot sellers when they are certain formats. When they are keywords separated by one well placed hyphen especially.

Those type with high search volume for the exact term are very easy to move for good money.

I've never figured out why but some hypen domains get type-in traffic year after year. I guess some folks just don't think like others when typing in a domain......and that is also what makes domaining interesting.

Yes......complain to GD.....they might just help you.....especially if you don't have to work with the lower level customer service reps. Try to get a manager.....don't get tied up talking to the lower level reps. If you have a Executive Account rep. then you should be able to make some real headway.

There are end users out there who only own the hyphenated version of a domain even when the non hyphenated version is available.

I used to do work for a company that was just bought out by a Fortune 500 Company (Top 50 Company).

In 2000 they registered the hyphenated version, and didn't get the regular version until years later. Even then they forwarded it to the hyphenated version.

I have had no problem moving good hyphenated keyword domains to end users. Since there are bargains to be found, the ROI is huge.
