question about 1and1

Someone help me out. If I register a domain at 1and1. Am I able to control that domain like if I wanted to move it or sell it, do I have that freedom. They have a good price to register your domain but I was wondering if they restrict you any.

Thanks

you may want to try godaddy or it's resellers or any major domainer friendly registrar, read about here there are lots of horror stories for 1and1.

Agree ^ IMHO, Stay away from 1and1 especially if you want to move domains around easily, Godaddy would be the best bet for what you want to do, names can be easily pushed to other godaddy accounts or transfered out once the waiting period is over,(60 days from contact change) 24/7 phone support to help you. It may cost a little more ($1.00 or so) but worth it. You can also find coupon codes that save you money on domain purchases from godaddy as well.

Go with Name.com or GoDaddy. They generally have cheap prices and are a safe bet to deal with. 1and1 is just an accident waiting to happen. As soon as you sell the domain there i am sure you will run in to problems with a transfer or something more.

1&1 are a Domainers nightmare.....Very difficult to sell any domain once it is discovered that the registrar is 1&1. If you do manage to sell one or move domain(s) to another registar then make sure you cancel with 1&1 or they will charge you for renewal when it is due..... Even though they no longer hold the domain!!!

My thinking(already bought one) was to buy with 1 and 1 and then after a week or so move it to my normal registrar that holds my business site. The 1 and 1 price was better but I like the service I get on my regular registrar and they renew for free each year . My business domain I paid .99 for (myputerdr.com) over 3 years ago at 1and1 but moved it to my current one right after I bought it and it went smooth and I have never paid to renew, just the hosting. That move was trouble free. But I know things change.

Let me run out and move my car. I drive that one when I don't want anyone to know it's me. Sorry sir.

If you have domains listed with 1and1, and you chose to let domains expire on their renewal dates, 1and1 punishes the customer by unlocking the domains. I guess this is to make it easier for people to steal them.
Also it takes 8 separate steps, by trial and error, to even find the site to indicate your renewal choice.
I don't have any beef with 1and1's web hosting. However, I curse the day I ever listed any domains with them. Investigative journalist, Kelli Jack states: “1and1 should be shut down.” The Pennsylvania Better Business Bureau has them listed as “Unsatisfactory” Check out Red Flag for some customer comments.

Then I better transfer it over to my host pretty quick. It's been a long while since I had a domain there until yesterday.
