How to deal with End User organizations?

Some of the end users I have been seeking lately are turning out to be organizations (both profit and non-profit). The questions at hand here deal mainly with non-profit organizations. For example, take a look at this response I just received
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/521549-how-to-deal-end-user-organizations.html

Hi XXXX,
We are a non-profit charity, so we haven't really commercialized our web presence. Although it is not a priority, it would be nice to have the .net domain. How much are you asking? It might be worth more to you as a tax-deductable donation.
Sincerely,
Denise
~~~~
The domain at hand is a 4 letter quad premium .net domain. I am uncertain how writing this off as a tax deduction would work.
*How much would of a tax deduction would we be looking at? I am assuming whatever price we reached for the domain?
*Would it be more worthwhile to ask for a payment or a tax deduction as it could be used towards my web hosting business?
*What type of prices do you normally quote for non-profit organizations if choosing not to go the tax deductible route? Obviously these companies are not going to have thousands of dollars to throw around for a domain name.
The person who responded to this email is the perfect match for the domain. I would really like to complete the sale but would first like to understand which route best suites myself and business.
Any help would be appreciated
LOL. thanks for the responses everyone. I mean, I have looked over the site and it does appear to be a legit organization (They own the same 4 letter only in .org)..It appears donations are not the best way to go with getting rid of domain names? Maybe it would be best to respond and say my accountant does not feel the donation will be very worthwhile for me?
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=521549
1. I was gonna donate this name to you but my wife found out & said she would divorce me if I did.
2. I was gonna donate it to you but this is the only domain I own so I am saving this name to pay off my kids college fund
Try to negotiate a price. This makes it sound like they would rather have you just give it to them, and write it off, but it also sounds like they might be willing to fork over a few bucks
I actually had an experience with this. I spoke to a CPA in reference to writing off a domain. You would only be able to write off up to what you paid for.
just my input..
Couldnt you agree a price with them, for example 1000$, and then donate that money back so you can claim the 1000$ if they arent willing to actually pay for it.
I have been a volunteer charity collector for many years and I know how difficult it is to get in funds in the current economic climate.
However I have also sold quite a few domain names to non profit organisations or charities, up to $2k in value.
What works for me is as follows:
Research the organisation interested in the name - obviously a local area organisation may have a different level of funds available from a larger state or nationwide organisation.
Check what similar names have fetched by using say the DNJournal, NameBio and other similar sites.
Explain to the organisation what is happening in the domain name aftermarket with similar names.
Set the price you would normally ask and, if you are so inclined, offer a discount to reflect the organisation being a charity or non profit organisation.
Wait and see what happens - it really depends on how much the organisation wants the name and what they intend to do with it, which is outside your control.
Not all non profits or charities are poor; many are realising the power of having a memorable domain name to help with their activities.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=521549
Good luck with the name.
