Help! I can't decide on a name for a website and for an Email address.

Now, first off, I don't want to give out my real name because then somebody might squat the domain as I am only buying it in a few days.
But for now, we will say that my name is Darren Lehman.

I can't decide on whether to use "DarrenLehman.com" or "DLehman.com" as a website address, and it's driving me crazy, so I decided to look for some advice. What do you think I should use?
I think DarrenLehman.com is more formal, but too long.
And I think DLehman.com is a good length but would people get confused with it?

Also, what should I use for an Email address regardless of above.

Darren@DLehman.com

-OR-

Contact@DarrenLehman.com

I will be using both mainly for personal use, although I may use them for my career in later years.

Any help appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

I like the full name. If you are going to begin a career that requires a certain formality, I don't think you can go wrong that way.

That's what I thought, even for personal use I think I would like it to look formal.

The only thing is, do you think that "Contact@DarrenLehman.com" is too long?

Also, can you give me an alternative to "Contact"?

I was thinking of "Info@DarrenLehman.com", but I don't think it would work.

And also "Darren@DarrenLehman.com" is repeating the "Darren" so I don't know about that.

My 2 cents - go with the full name. There is a reason that celebrities have sites like paulmccartney.com versus pmccartney.com.

As for the email, I agree with nicedomain's ideas.

Also you could just use yahoo or hotmail for email as these are memorable extentions - I have my name registered as a domain name but still use yahoo because I like yahoo's interface and its easy to remember, just personal preference though.

How about a play on words: DoubleDawgDarren@truthordareen.com If only your name was really Darren you'd have the perfect domain name: TruthOrDarren.com

Well I do like the first 3, but I'm just not sure how easy people would remember them.

But I think I may go with the "DL@" option.

Thanks for the help!

Well I too prefer Hotmail to whatever the Domain company would give me, but I'm going to use something called Windows Live Admin Center which [as far as I know] lets you sign into any Windows Live ID-Enabled site with any address you register.

So I will be able to sign into MSN, Hotmail, etc. With "DL@DarrenLehman.com", or whatever I choose!

And also, my first name really is Darren, and that's a pretty nice domain, but it's already taken.

I have my FirstnameLastname.com and my e-mail address is: Firstname@FirstnameLastname.com

It's EASY for people to remember

I recommend this format

But does the repetition of your first name not look awkward?

If you're not sure, why not reg both versions?

Use one for the website, and the other for redirect. You can always let the lesser one expire after a year.

I agree 100%. If you are going to be a lawyer, the full name seem more appropiate. (see my daughters name below.)

I had thought that just the lastname.com would be best, if available. Probably very poor odds on that though.

If your real firstname-lastname is of a form where the break between the two is not obvious, think about the first initial option. There's a radio investment guy here in ill annoy whose name is like that; he states it twice (second time phonetically) to emphasize the spelling and the break point.

That said my rather common last name is taken in all interesting TLDs, firstnamelastname the same (I share that with a somewhat famous, dead actor), and firstinitiallastname was gone in .COM so I settled for the .NET.

For an email address, you do not need the com. I have lastname.eu, I also have firstname(at)firstname(s).biz.

Look at lastname.net, lastname.biz etc. then use firstname(at)lastname format

And I've only realised how lucky I am because I tried my some of my friends' names.com and they're all taken.

Oh well I am going to register both regardless, as well as like 10 other ones.

I just wanted this info on what I should use as my main one.

Yes but don't you think if it's "Contact" AT "My Name", it means you're contacting the person with that name?
I don't think I could go wrong there.

Well, the thing there is, I really badly wanted surname.com.
I even contacted the guy who owns it via Email, and he doesn't even use it for anythig but Email. I mean, he has a few advertisements on the site and one Email address from it. It's an outrage!

And he lives in the same country as me, not far away. So I intend to attempt to buy it in a few years when he give it to is kids hopefully they won't understand it's value.
And he told me he registered it in 1996 and he was keeping it for his children and grandchildren.

It's idiotic. But hey, guess I'm lucky to even be able to get FirstNameSurname.com and FirstInitialSurname.com.

But I am able to get Surname - .mobi, .us, .tv, .bz, .biz, .de, .la amongst other interesting ones.
