Cancer Survivorship Breast Cancer

A view from the other side of the domaining fence

Somehow stumbled onto this thread, where an enduser is fretting about what to do about offering on a domain he wants:

http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum...fm/835653.html

Pretty instructive. Sometimes we can get so lost in our own little reseller world that we overlook what it must be like to be on the other end. Thoughts?

In this case, the buyer really wanted the name and the seller was firm so I guess it's all good for both parties.

Thanks for sharing.

This was pretty interesting. To tell you the truth, I was expecting them to view domainers in a worse way. They were pretty understanding.

I particularly liked the part where the domainer countered with $10k, no doubt because he thought it was a reseller trying to lowball him and he wanted to send a message -- and the guy was incredulous (how could you not be). How many times have you seen this recommended? Shoot, I've even done it myself (not up to 10k, but still). But it could've lost him an enduser sale that I think was quite nice considering the name.

Thanks for the link, ripley. It's interesting to see how the other side views us. I'm surprised that it wasn't more negative toward domainers (although the one poster did call us "squatters" -- wish they'd get their terminology correct).

One of the users mentioned Sedo in that post -- keep in mind that average end users do, in fact, use Sedo. Negotiate reasonably!

It seems like the best lesson learned from the other side of the fence was not to search at godaddy. LOL

At least the guy got his family name, i looked at his site, and he certainly is getting some value out of it by posting family photos, etc.

I have a very rare family name also, unfortunately it is a generic lll.com as well, i dont think im ever going to have the satisfaction of owning the "trophy family name".
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/512807-a-view-other-side-domaining-fence.html

Just amazes me that somebody had the foresight to go and hand reg obscure surnames.

ADDIT: HMMMM, i knew as soon as i posted that, and re read again, i should have smelled, "domain tasting". I think a further investigation into this Aussie company is warranted. Even their website is suspicious, a single blank page, to apply for a domain. I thought only network solutions did this kind of sneaky stuff these days, but now im not so sure.

Well that took all of 5 minutes to uncover the truth,

Domain Active Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Dark Blue Sea Ltd,
Dark Blue Sea Ltd own Fabulous
Fabulous has agreements to list their 400k names with over half the retail registrars, according to a March 07 company announcement on the Australian Stock exchange
I think they also signed up with TDNAM and BuyDomains,

Seems to be a VERY cosey arrangement LOL
