Warning About Fake Domain Stats

Hi guys,
i just had a pretty scary discovery. It's probably old news to some of you, but for many worth a look I'd say. The whole thing took less than five minutes and didn't need photoshop (or anything like it).

I'll keep the procedure quiet (obviously), but thought on balance it was better to post about it here than not.

Looks like NameDrive needs to look into this. No reason somebody should be able to even list domains they do not own...

It's not just Namedrive - it can be done with any parking company - Parked, whoever. For instance, i've added to the above my good names i have with Sedo.

If you didn't need to open Photoshop I'm guessing you just copied the html, changed relative links (to images and such) to permanent links and altered the domains. Upload to your server, navigate to it in your browser, then take a screenshot. Probably would be easier to just Photoshop it though.

This is why people do traffic tests.

Nope. It's not much more difficult than doing a basic screen grab. (I won't give out any more hints though, just in case we have lurkers.)

Yes, I'm thinking i'll now ask for tests a lot more. Even though they can be faked, too

you may also use statbrain.com as one of the tools to test traffic but not the ultimate tool btw.

Parking pages should offer certified traffic stat emails. If someone inquires for stats you can just send them an automated email. Not completely foolproof, but would be something at least.

someone just posted up how to do this (deleted).

let's not talk about how to do it -- it's easy to do, i'd like to hear what to do about it. especially since so much of domaining is based on stats.
