help me not being scammed please!

I'm currently selling a domain name, for 3000$, on tdnam.

The status on escrow.com is now "Submit the domain name transfer to the Buyer", the payment has been approved.

1) I just realized my domain is about to expired 9/26/2008 (don't worry I didn't forget it, I would have renewed it soon!). Is it odd that my domain name is bought at this particular moment? Can it be a scam?

What would append if I transfert the domain name and the buyer does not confirm anything to escrow.com for a while? If the domain expires without that confirmation, what would append?

2) Should I just renew the domain for one year before transfering it? But if I do this, is there a period (2 months or something) during which a domain name cannot be transfered?

3) Escrow.com gave me the name and adress of the person I should transfert the domain name to. When I look at the informations needed to push a domain name on godaddy, I need the buyer's "# or login name" and email. Therefore I have to contact the buyer to ask him those informations right? I plan on using the "Email Buyer" feature on tdnam to contact him. Is that ok?

Hi tata668,

TDNAM (GoDaddy) uses Escrow.com for sales over $500.

If Escrow.com is telling you to release the domain then that means
GoDaddy is telling Escrow.com that the domain has been paid for.

Yes, get the Buyer's User ID and email address thru TDNAM.

This will allow for a Quick Push at GoDaddy (called Quick Accept).

The fact that you are going to push the domain into the Buyer's GoDaddy account is a good thing.

It's good because the Buyer has to leave the domain at GoDaddy
for 60 days.

If the Buyer turns out to have used a stolen credit card or is playing
some other game, "your" domain will be in GoDaddy's system and GoDaddy can restore the domain to you.

Also since your sale is using Escrow.com, you will receive your $ pretty quickly once the sale is concluded depending on the payment method you selected.

If you weren't using Escrow.com, you'd have to wait about 31 days after transferring the domain to get paid.

Relax, you have done everything right, your domain has 3 weeks until expiry, the money has been paid and is in a fund account, when you push the domain, the money will be released, just follow the escrow prompts. You have nothing to worry about, there is no scam happening, its all good news for you, congrats.....$3,000, very nice indeed.

according to your description , things seem ok so far so don't worry

I think it is a good idea to renew the domain before transfer ... both because it is polite towards the buyer (who paid $3000) ... and to be safe even if there is a delay in the procedure

you don't have to worry about renewing it ... it doesn't affect the ability to push it or transfer it

(the 60-day rule applies only after there is a change to the whois details)

lastly , even though you can contact the buyer for his account number ... you can do a push at GoDaddy with only the email address ... all you have to do is choose the "Enter new details" option when you initiate the push (which is named as "Account Change" in the Domain Control Panel)

in this case instead of putting random letters , you must put the details that escrow.com gave you in the fields

you're covered/protected by escrow.com do what it said "Submit the domain name transfer to the Buyer" and wait for them to confirm show them proof that you've done the push.

Im in the same situation and a little skeptical as the buyer hasnt been too 'communicative' with me regarding this 'sale'..... they just want me to transfer it as fast as possible.... i dont want to get scammed, but my question is, will the whois info automatically change when i push to a different account within the same registrar? Or is there a risk that right after the push the buyer could transfer the domain to another registrar before changing the whois to his own?

martinisky - once the push is accepted from the receiving person , the whois will be automatically updated with the new details (therefore the push will be documented in the registrar's whois records)

regarding this issue (scammer changing the whois again to steal the domain or say he did not receive it) ... even though it is a possible cause of delays and headaches and has been discussed quite some in the forums , I don't think it is very dangerous for 3 reasons ...

1. the current position of the domain (at which registrar it is currently at) can be easily located via the registry (VeriSign) ... if the domain has been transferred after the push , registrars can communicate between them in situations like this and transfer the domain back

2. I think that in very rare situations a scammer would risk X thousands of his own money to pull a trick that can be sorted out with the co-operation of the original owner , escrow.com , current registrar , receiving registrar(s) and the registry (no to mention police or lawyers if it goes that far)

3. even though the above issue has been mentioned quite some around the forums , I haven't seen a major complain of a scam like that being pulled through (though once I did saw a complain about a seller complaining that the buyer rejected the escrow after receiving a domain and a SEO technics ebook or something ... in that case I think the domain was returned but the ebook could have been copied)

if you are worried for some reason about the buyer scamming you , maybe it is a good idea to contact GoDaddy customer service and ask them to do the push to the buyer's details and then send you an email as proof that they administered the push

you could then use that with escrow.com (as a proof that the push to the buyer has actually occured) if some problem arise , so that they freeze the funds until the domain is retrieved
