can you reveal the name or anything else about the domain? Reason I ask is maybe someone here can shed more like on a possible use/value.

EDIT: Just tell them you NEVER want to pay taxes again.... haha

What's the domain? Have they made an offer?

Think about the value of the domain and have a set price in your head. Then triple it (just kidding).

Try and establish how far you feel they are willing to go and try and achieve what you believe to be a reasonable estimation of value. Don't let the fact it's a Government official sway you that much, obviously they have deep pockets but they also have a high price just like anyone else.

Ascertain how much the individual knows about the domain industry and try and negotiate from that platform. Figure out all the bases first (this does not require you to field a direct question, be subtle about it).
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/502715-usa-government-want-buy-domain-name.html

Good luck.

I am not saying your domain is in the same league but I seem to remember NAV.no being sold to a Norwegian Government body for $717,978 back in 2006, it may be well worth your while looking this sale up on DNJournal, if nothing else you could use it as a kind of bench mark for similar such domains!

In the meantime I really wish you all the best with the possible sale. Fingers crossed..

If you can do some research on what sort of budget that Agency has, that could be helpful. I used to work for a government agency with a small budget and even if we wanted a certain domain name we would not have been able to print money out of thing air to purchase it.

On the other hand, if someone at the top wanted a domain name I could easily see them finding the money somewhere in the budget.
????: NamePros.com http://www.namepros.com/showthread.php?t=502715

Also, the person that has been tasked to purchase the domain name may very well have zero experience in the matter. He/she might be more than happy to tell you what the budget is for the name.

Maybe a nice e-mail saying that you are currently considering private offers and would like to know what sort of budget that agency has in mind for the particular domain name.

In anycase I hope it works out well. Best of luck.

Tell them you want to be paid in EUROs- not $. :-)

More seriously, tell them to present a written offer and you'll discuss
it with your...um...partners.

i remember once being asked to do some design work for a government agency. i didn't really care if i got the work or not at the time, so i tripled my usual quote. they said "fine"!.

you might hit a similar sweet deal where the person you're dealing with is completely unaware of the industry...AND playing with other people's money.

Seems a bit bizzare to me, but if its a US Government body, why arent they using the .gov? They would have no issues acquiring that if it was not being used.

They already have the .us but for some reason think .org is the best suited for their purpose

Dont worry about what they have got, concentrate on what they have not got(your name)

There is a reason they want it (they may have all other extensions wrapped up)

Or they may think .org will make more sense for this "project"
